Hamas, Islamic Jihad to hand over deceased hostage

Almost Heaven

Well-known
Hamas announced on Tuesday that together with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, it will transfer a deceased hostage at 16:00 local time. According to the terrorist organizations, he was found in central Gaza on Monday.

Islamic Jihad said Monday night that it had formally located a deceased hostage. Qatar's Al Jazeera channel reported that the evacuation of the deceased hostage took place amid the rubble in northern Nuseirat in the Gaza Strip. According to the report, the deceased hostage had been held by Islamic Jihad.

Earlier Tuesday, the Prime Minister's Office criticized the delay in transferring the deceased hostage. "In light of Islamic Jihad's announcement that it located remains of a deceased hostage, Israel views the delay in its immediate transfer with the utmost severity. This constitutes another violation of the agreement," the statement said.

Three deceased hostages remain in Gaza: Staff Sgt. Ran Gvili, 24; Dror Or, 49; and Sudthisak Rinthalak, 43. Gvili, a member of the Israel Police's Yasam special patrol unit, killed 14 terrorists before being abducted. Or was taken from his home in Kibbutz Be'eri; his wife was murdered and his children were released in the November 2023 deal. Rinthalak, a Thai agricultural worker, was kidnapped from the orchards where he worked.

Kidnapped hostage's coffin transferred to IDF in Gaza, making its way to Forensic Institute

The Red Cross transferred the coffin of the hostage killed in the Gaza Strip to the IDF and Shin Bet. This was updated by the Prime Minister's Office. "From there it will be transferred to Israel, where it will be received in a military ceremony with a military rabbi," they stated. "Afterward, it will be transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine of the Ministry of Health. Following the identification process, an official notification will be delivered to the family."

Is there a difference between Hamas and Islamic Jihad?
Yes. Hamas is the terror group who ruled the Gaza strip ever since Israel handed it over in 2006-07. Islamic Jihad is a separate terror group.
Islamic Jihad (PIJ) is a Palestinian Islamist terrorist group sponsored by Iran and Syria. Founded in 1979 as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, PIJ is the second-largest terrorist group in Gaza today (after Hamas).

Prime Minister's Office: The recovered hostage body is Dror Or

Dror Or is the hostage whose body was identified at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, according to the Prime Minister's Office. "After completion of the identification process by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, in cooperation with Israel Police and the Military Rabbinate, IDF representatives informed the family of the deceased hostage, Dror Or, that their loved one has been returned to Israel and his identification has been completed. The Government of Israel shares in the profound grief of the Or family and all families of the deceased hostages," the statement said.
Be'eri on the return of Dror Or: 'For the first time since October 7 - no more hostages from the kibbutz'

Kibbutz Be'eri announced following the identification of Dror Or's body at the Institute of Forensic Medicine that "for the first time since October 7 - there are no more hostages from the kibbutz in captivity." They added that "for the Or family, this brings closure they have yearned for during 781 painful days, and for which they fought relentlessly throughout an unbearably long and difficult period." On October 7, Dror and his partner Yonat helped their children escape through the safe room window, saving their lives. The couple tried to escape but both were murdered, and Dror was taken captive to Gaza. Two of their children, Noam and Alma, were kidnapped to Gaza and released after 50 days. In May 2024, it was revealed that Dror was no longer alive.
