Ford's use of an unusual 'dog' is saving it big machine repair costs in some plants

Sentinel is continuously on the move at Ford Motor Co.'s factory in Valencia, Spain.

The "dog" slides across the factory floor, weaving around obstacles and squeezing into small, tight spaces where no person could easily fit, all so it can do the job its name implies: Be on guard for any problems.

Sentinel is a dog-like robot whose job is to "sniff" oil leaks from machines or use its many sensors to tell if a machine is overheating, with the goal of heading off any problems before they escalate and require halting the assembly line or thwarting vehicle quality.

This seems like a positive use of robotics and technology.
