Fighter jet crashes into San Diego Bay, pilots eject safely

A US military fighter jet crashed into San Diego Bay Wednesday – but both pilots reportedly ejected to safety.

The crash happened around 10:40 a.m., the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department confirmed, with the jet landing in the water off Shelter Island.

The neighborhood is directly across the bay from Naval Air Station North Island, an extensive navy base equipped for aircraft.

Both pilots were taken to a nearby hospital, according to KGTV.

It's also the cruise ship dock area, George and I took a couple of tours, land and sea there. Beautiful area, one of our favourites. I'm glad the pilots made it out alive, and pray they are ok.

Sadly, fighter jets crash during training, happens a few times every year. On my last deployment, we left a Harrier Fighter Jet at the bottom of the sea, but pilot managed to safely eject.
