MOOSE CREEK, Alaska (KTUU) - An F-35 fighter jet crashed Tuesday on a flightline on Eielson Air Force Base, a military official told Alaska News Source.
The pilot was uninjured, according to Airman 1st Class Spencer Hanson.
The crash occurred at about 12:49 p.m., according to Col. Paul Townsend, 354th Fighter Wing Commander.
Emergency services were at the scene Tuesday afternoon putting out the fire caused by the crash and the area was cordoned off.
Townsend said in a press conference that the pilot was in the process of landing during a training exercise when his jet suffered an “inflight malfunction,” forcing him to eject. He said the pilot was executing normal, standard procedures when the crash occurred.
