Warsaw confirms Russian drones violated its airspace overnight, marking the first direct engagement of Russian assets over NATO territory.

Poland has confirmed it shot down multiple Russian drones that violated its airspace in the night between Sep. 9 and 10, 2025, during Moscow’s latest large-scale strike on Ukraine. The unprecedented incident marks the first time that Russian assets have been destroyed over NATO territory since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Poland: '7 drones found in country's territory,' PM: 'Closest to conflict since World War II'

Polish authorities have so far found seven drones and parts of one ballistic missile launched from Russia that penetrated the country's territory, according to Poland's Ministry of Interior. Since morning, several European countries have condemned the Russian attack aimed at Ukraine, part of which reached Poland. Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his country is "the closest it has been to military conflict since World War II."

Poland intercepts Russian drones in unprecedented NATO test

The incident came as faith in NATO unity continues to falter, with CNN pointing to President Donald Trump's stance urging Europeans to take the lead in defense strategy.

Ned Price, who served as a US State Department spokesperson, told CNN that Russia may have deliberately tested NATO response by sending drones. He warned that "their presence, if deliberate, could expose what Russia might see as 'weakness,'" while also acknowledging the possibility of accidental overflight.

Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois was more blunt, warning on X that "repeated violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones are fair warning that Vladimir Putin is testing our resolve to protect Poland and the Baltic nations," CNN said.

Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that Poland is "in constant contact with NATO command." He said Territorial Defense Forces had been deployed to recover wreckage and called on civilians to stay calm and report findings.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CNN that he had been briefed on the intrusions after leaving a dinner with President Trump on Tuesday evening.

Polish authorities earlier closed Warsaw International Airport, while both Polish and NATO fighter aircraft were scrambled in response to incoming drones.

Article 4 has been invoked. That is one step below the full on Article 5 of NATO and it means Tusk (Poland's leader) is calling the rest of NATO to talk seriously about what to do next.

Here is Reuters: What are NATO's defence obligations under Articles 4 and 5 of its treaty?

"Under Article 4, discussions at the North Atlantic Council - NATO’s principal political decision-making body - could potentially lead to some form of joint decision or action.

Since NATO’s creation in 1949, Article 4 has been invoked seven times, most recently in February 2022 when Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia sought consultations following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

NATO ambassadors in November 2022 held an emergency meeting after a missile strike killed two people in Poland and raised global alarm that the war could spill into neighboring countries

Poland is at its closest to open conflict since World War Two, PM says

WARSAW, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Poland is the closest it has been to open conflict since World War Two, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday after the NATO member state shot down Russian drones over its territory.

He said Poland had asked NATO to open consultations under Article 4 of its treaty, which states that members of the Western military alliance will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territory, political independence or security of any of them is threatened.

Tusk told parliament there had been 19 intrusions into Polish airspace overnight. The incursions heightened tensions that were already simmering after previous incursions by drones.
"I have no reason to claim we're on the brink of war, but a line has been crossed, and it's incomparably more dangerous than before," he said.

"This situation brings us the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two".
Tusk said the shooting down of three drones had been confirmed, and it was likely a fourth had been downed.

Poland got hit worst and first (unless we count the Czechoslovakian province of the Sudetenland) in WW2. Abandoned by her allies Britain and France - who declared war on Germany finally.

But true to form, Chamberlain was the Prime Minister of Britain at the time, a great fan of compromise and letting Hitler do anything as long as he could claim "peace in our time". Chamberlain let Hitler have the Sudetenland, but finally hit even his limit when Hitler invaded their ally Poland.

France fell next.

Only Britain remained, and plenty of Polish fighters came to fight WW2 alongside their allies.

But Poland paid a heavy heavy price.

She got sold out again at the end of WW2 when Yalta (Britain, USA & Russia) carved up Europe and it was decided to let Russia have Eastern Europe (AND POLAND)

France was infuriated at being left out of Yalta, and they never have forgiven Britain for that slight. However the real power had already shifted from Britain (even under Churchill it was almost bankrupt) to the newly emerged world power of the United States.

And Roosevelt was President. He was really ill at that conference, and Russia under Stalin took full advantage.

General Patton wanted to keep going and push Russia back from Europe but Roosevelt was done fighting.

And POLAND PAID THE PRICE.

Poland is seeing the beginnings of something that might explode into war soon.

Moldova, Poland, Finland, Lithuania and Latvia are all seeing more of a threat from Russia to their borders or their sovereignty.

The military "exercise" called Zapad 2025 is a mirror of Zapad 2021 that they did just before the Ukraine was invaded!

France Forward-Deploying Fighter Jets to Poland After Russian Drone Incursion

WARSAW, Poland (AP) – France said it’s deploying fighter jets to Poland and Britain announced fresh sanctions on Russia´s oil revenues and war machine Friday as European countries took steps to deter Moscow´s aggression after an incursion by Russian drones into Polish territory.

French President Emmanuel Macron said he would deploy three advanced Rafale fighter jets to help protect Poland ´s airspace and NATO´ s eastern flank to fulfill a commitment to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The Rafales will patrol alongside other NATO aircraft in a deployment that also will include munitions and personnel on the ground, the French Defense Ministry said.

“The security of the European continent is our top priority. We will not yield to Russia´s growing intimidation,” Macron posted on X. He said the deployment was discussed with both NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Multiple Russian drones crossed into Poland on Wednesday, prompting NATO to send fighter jets to shoot them down and underlining long-held concerns about Russia´s three-year war in neighboring Ukraine expanding.

Update: What to know about 'Eastern Sentry,' NATO's response to Russian drones. Denmark (2) and Germany (4) joined France (3) in deploying a total of 9 fighter jets to Poland for assistance. What to know about 'Eastern Sentry,' NATO's response to Russian drones

"Eastern Sentry and this new approach will deliver even more focused and flexible deterrence and defense where and when needed to protect our people and deter against further reckless and dangerous acts," Grynkewich said.

The operation was launched as a result of Poland’s invocation of NATO’s Article 4 in response to the Russian drone incursions.

So far, Denmark has committed two F-16 fighters and an anti-air warfare frigate, France said it will contribute three Rafale jets and Germany said it will deploy four Eurofighter aircraft.

The operation is being run by NATO’s Allied Command Operations (ACO), and is modeled on the Baltic Sentry operation introduced in January 2025 to enhance security in the Baltic Sea.

As in the Baltic Sea, SHAPE said ACO will collaborate with NATO’s Allied Command Transformation "to rapidly experiment and field new technologies at alliance-wide scale, such as counter-drone sensors and weapons to detect, track and kill drones."

At least one drone violation of NATO airspace has been recorded since Eastern Sentry began. On Sunday, Romania’s Defense Ministry confirmed to ABC News that one drone entered its airspace during a Russian attack on Ukrainian targets close to the shared border.

F-16 fighters tracked the drone until it turned back into Ukraine, a ministry spokesperson said. The violation is the eleventh recorded since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, according to Defense Ministry figures provided to ABC News.

The Institute for the Study of War think tank suggested in a weekend briefing that Russian drone incursions into NATO airspace are "likely attempting to gauge NATO’s capabilities and reactions to the drone incursion in hopes of applying lessons learned to possible future conflicts against the NATO alliance
."

Russia persists in denial but 1 Drone could be a "mistake", while 20 or more is PURPOSEFUL! The numbers keep piling up.

Seems in these times, allies for western countries only want to lend military equipment and not send soldiers to get involved in actual combat

Had Britain and the USA honoured their promise to Ukraine -

The security guarantees to Ukraine given at the Budapest Memorandum in 1994 in exchange for giving up their nukes then Ukraine wouldn't be at war.

(Bill Clinton later said he deeply regretted doing this- seeing how it turned out- none of the others even seemed to turn a hair over Ukraine's fate)

Britain, the USA and Russia each signed it, guaranteeing Ukraine's security from invasion, literally promising to come to Ukraine's aid if they were ever invaded in future. They actually trusted Britain and the US back in 1994. (China and France both signed separate documents that also agreed to come to Ukrainian defence if invaded)

Ukraine didn't trust Russia.

Because they thought that Britain and the USA would stand by their word, they gave up the arsenal of nukes that they held. France and China were the backup plan.

This is why Zelensky refused Trump's recent offer of security guarantees.

If they lay down what weapons they have, what support they can gather, then Russia takes them completely.

This is the context behind Zelensky's stubborn refusal to stop fighting.

It's also why Zelensky feels suspicious of any "Security Guarantees" as that hasn't worked out so well for them.

The original Security Guarantees that Ukraine had relied on turned out to be as worthless as the word of the leaders of Britain, USA, France, Russia and China

Bill Clinton USA,
John Major Britain,
Boris Yeltsin Russia,
Mitterand France, and
Jiang Zemin of China.

This is also why Israel should NEVER EVER EVER trust any guarantee or promise no matter who it's from, no matter how ironclad it is.

Only God can be trusted to keep His Word.
