Massive explosion in Cairo during Gaza summit in Egypt They reported about 9 hours ago
Egyptian news sources pegging it to exploding old ordnance at a military site, a bad car accident and several other interesting excuses for things blowing up around the time of Trump's arrival.
From the Israeli site:
A huge cloud of smoke was seen rising over Cairo, the largest city in the Middle East and Africa, as rescue and emergency vehicles rushed toward the scene.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, but social media users claimed it originated from an Egyptian military base located in the northern suburbs of the capital, near government and public buildings.
State-affiliated media outlets in Egypt attempted to downplay the incident, reporting that the smoke came from a construction site. However, residents shared photos and videos showing flames rising from the blast site, saying they had heard a loud, distinct explosion that shattered windows kilometers away."
I sometimes watch an Egyptian British fellow who is a bit of an Israel fan, and he brought it up earlier this morning.
He was explaining that some Hamas leaders were unexpectedly absent from the Sharm al Sheikh meeting, in the same breath as he gave the news of this explosion.
They may or may not be connected. It is interesting.
