Exclusive: Pentagon ramps up planning for possible military ops in Cuba

WASHINGTON — Military planning for a possible Pentagon-led operation in Cuba is quietly ramping up, in case President Donald Trump gives an order to intervene there, USA TODAY has learned.

Two sources familiar with the order spoke to USA TODAY on condition of anonymity because they're not authorized to speak to media.

The directives appear to be an escalation of recent tensions between the U.S. and Cuba that began in January when the Trump administration curbed oil shipments to Cuba as part of a broader campaign to force sweeping political changes on the communist-run island.

In a statement to USA TODAY the Pentagon said it plans for a range of contingencies and remains prepared to execute the president’s orders as directed.

On April 13, Trump told USA TODAY at the White House, “We may stop by Cuba after we’re finished with this,” referring to ongoing conflict with Iran.

When they say their information came from a source "in condition of anonymity", I take it with a grain of salt and follow my practice to not pay mind to what is said but to watch what is done.

I think there's some huge mistakes going on right now in the Trump camp. Too much emphasis on foreign affairs and not enough action for Republican voters who gave the GOP the Presidency, the Senate, and the House. Costs continue to rise, homes and new cars are out of reach for most middle class Americans. Gas is high, I know it will come back down (maybe), but people have short memories.

We wanted people arrested for election fraud and Russian collision and instead got nothing. Immigrants are stealing us blind and crickets from everyone. They can't even pass a voter bill that 79% of Americans want, they don't have the intestinal fortitude to force a filibuster. The GOP has no killer instinct which it must learn quickly. There's no doubt about a mid-term blowout, history says it will happen and then nothing but a lame duck finish to Trump's term.
