Egg purchase restrictions take effect at more major US grocery stores

Costco, Kroger and Whole Foods are among the growing list of grocers that are putting a purchasing limit on eggs as supply shortages persist.

Companies started imposing limits on the product as the shortage caused by outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, persists, causing a frenzy among shoppers. Droves of viral videos have surfaced in recent weeks, showing shoppers stockpiling eggs. One video posted on TikTok claimed that an entire section of eggs at a Costco was gone in less than 10 minutes.

Amazon-owned Whole Foods posted signs on its shelves notifying customers that customers can only buy three cartons of eggs at one time.

"We are currently experiencing difficulty sourcing eggs that meet our strict animal welfare standards," a sign posted at one of its stores in New York City read.

Wow! My mom has been supplying us fresh eggs from a local lady in her neighborhood. She usually brings us 10 dozen eggs and we’ve seen her pretty consistently so we haven’t had to buy store eggs for the last few months.

I’ll probably have sticker shock the next time we go, which will probably be at the end of the month.

I don't understand what's going on. I saw a YouTube the other day, eggs are plentiful and inexpensive in Mexico- no shortages here either, and the price is stable.

We all 3- Canada, Mexico and USA- have bird flu stuff that kills some wild birds, and affects domesticated hens so I don't think it's bird flu- that is real though- it killed 2 eagle chicks in a nest in Florida that I watch, it's a threat to hens around here but it hasn't affected our egg supply.

So I suspect that egg supplies are being manipulated in some way. And it's not just bird flu. Because if it was- we have bird flu here, but our egg supply chain is fine. So it must be something else going on. Bird flu is just the excuse to cover up the real reason. Whether that is a long term project to reduce factory farming by animal rights activists burning down processing plants or damaging the farms who knows.

Soy "milk", tofu, and insect protein are what we must eat to save the planet, according to those people. The sooner we stop consuming animal-based protein, the sooner the climate will recover and we all will be safe. So they believe. :headbang: And, (isn't this coincidental) it just so happens to play perfectly into a Marxist vision of a centrally-controlled populace.

It's been said that it's the slaughtering of the hens and chickens that is causing egg prices to go up because of the lack of eggs in the US.
It only takes one chicken to be "found" infected and all of the entire flock has to be slaughtered according to the Department of Agriculture.
The slaughtering is due to inspectors "finding" bird flu in the live poultry in farms.
Now one has to wonder whether those inspectors have actually had evidence of the poultry being infected, or has the virus been intentionally injected into many of those findings.
It's hard to really know but it's not to be ruled out either.
Trump is cleaning out many bad actors from government and that is good, but bad actors are so imbedded in government that it's hard to know who is and who isn't part of the globalists agenda that has been infiltrated into every institution in the US for a very long time and will be difficult to remove every one of them any time soon.

Egg Heist In West Seattle As Thieves Steal Over 500 Eggs And other Breakfast Foods

Authorities are investigating a bold theft at a West Seattle café where culprits made off with hundreds of eggs and various breakfast items. This incident has drawn attention amid soaring egg prices, which have surged since the economic changes under former President Trump. Officers were dispatched to the Luna Park Cafe, located on the 2900 block of Southwest Avalon Way, around 4:42 a.m. after security cameras captured suspicious activity.

Police report that two men were seen entering a refrigerated shed at the café and absconding with boxes containing approximately 540 eggs, valued at around $387, as well as bacon, ground beef, blueberries, and liquid egg products. The suspects loaded their haul into a van and swiftly fled the scene. This egg theft occurs against the backdrop of skyrocketing egg prices, driven by an ongoing bird flu outbreak that has led to some carton prices tripling in just a month. The total estimated value of the stolen goods is approximately $780.

The egg heist at the Luna Park Cafe has sparked significant interest in the community, particularly given the current economic climate surrounding food prices. With egg prices hitting record highs due to supply chain disruptions and the ongoing bird flu outbreak affecting poultry production, this theft is seen as not just a loss for the café but also a reflection of broader issues in the food industry.

Later, a café employee discovered that the suspects had returned to the property, with one of them spotted near the shed again. However, upon noticing the employee, the man quickly jumped back into the van, and both suspects left the scene once more. Police continue to investigate the incident as they seek to crack the case.

That's what I think. Without enough evidence to point the finger at.

WF here that I go to has been limiting egg purchases for over a month. 3 cartons.

Part of the shortage right now is the increased baking going on for Lent and Ramadan, plus this time of the year with decreased egg production, plus the bird slaughters due to bird flu. It's going to get worse as the various Jewish holidays hit. Traditional foods are a key part of enjoying traditional holidays.

It's a big pain in the petunias, but at least here, there's a plausible explanation.

As the infected farms get cleaned and disinfected, restocked with chicks, and the chickens mature to egg-layers, the problem will likely subside. This has happened in Minnesota a bunch of times since I was a kid. There wouldn't have been the Ramadan impact then, but there were a lot more Christians and Jewish people, so this happened back then, too.

Farmers finding the infected bird(s) call the inspectors. It's a requirement for insurance compensation, plus various laws and regulations. Inspectors don't just suddenly show up out of the blue. If they find an infected flock, they'll go to neighboring operations to check, so they can get the whole hot spot instead of letting bird flu spread farther and farther. Farmers maintain close contact with neighboring farms and watch out for each other, so they'll notify their neighbors so farmers can take whatever precautions they can and double-check their flocks. I think some have tried nets, canopies, and keeping whole flocks inside for awhile, but IDK how effective, and what else they do. No one wants to lose a flock, but better to kill a flock and then disinfect everything than have the virus spread from the flock (as virus reservoir) by wild birds to more and more flocks.

Very large-scale corporate farm operations also mean killing one flock has more of an impact on the egg supply than killing dozens of Mom-and-Pop backyard flocks.

Trump's DOJ Launches Investigation of Price Gouging by Egg Producers

The Justice Department has opened an investigation into an alleged price-fixing scheme among egg producers that threatens to keep the consumer price index pumped up and cause President Trump a great deal of trouble in honoring his campaign pledge to bring inflation down.

The probe comes after prices have doubled over the past year and eggs are sometimes entirely absent from grocery store shelves. Grocers say eggs are one of the leading drivers of food inflation over the past few months. President Trump vowed to bring down inflation once he entered office for his second term.
The investigation is in its early stages. The department sent a letter to some egg companies that instructed them to preserve documents about their pricing conversations with customers and competitors, as well as communications with Urner Barry—which is now called Expana and tracks wholesale egg-price information, some of the people familiar with the matter said. The letter also signaled the department was interested in company communications about egg production and bird flu.

The primary reason for the price increase is pretty simple: We are experiencing an H5N1 avian flu epidemic in poultry flocks. Since 2022, 162 million domestic fowl, most of them chickens, have been slaughtered to prevent the spread of the disease. (You can't help but think CDC would've happily done this to Americans during COVID but had to settle for less.) Every time a chicken gets sick, the whole flock is killed. Of course, according to Grok:

  • Culling Practices: In response to H5N1 outbreaks, standard protocol in many countries (like the U.S.) is to cull entire flocks—sometimes millions of birds—upon detection to prevent spread. This eliminates any chance for surviving chickens to develop and pass on natural immunity. While some studies and anecdotal reports suggest survivors could gain immunity, this potential is cut short by these aggressive containment measures.
  • Lack of Natural Exposure Cycles: In wild bird populations (e.g., ducks), H5N1 often circulates as a low-pathogenicity strain, allowing birds to survive, adapt, and build immunity over generations. Domestic chickens, however, are typically raised in controlled environments with limited exposure until an outbreak hits. When it does, the virus is usually the highly pathogenic form, overwhelming their immune systems without prior priming from milder strains

So long as eggs and meat from infected chickens don't pose a threat to human health or life, I could support some changes.

However, if they do, then some way of segregating/quarantining and labeling/destroying needs to happen.

OTOH, if eating such eggs and/or meat would provide exposure-based immunity for humans against bird flu, that might not be bad, although labeling and sealed packaging would be imperative to protect vulnerable and immune-compromised people.

OK this is a must see! I watch this gal occaisionally- she's part of the carnivore diet community and has interesting and intelligent things to say.

Today after church I clicked on this: - YouTube

FOLLOW THE MONEY!

It leads right back to the VACCINES that the same people who brought us the human stuff, are pushing on American farmers.

They are in cahoots with the farm regulatory people who incentivize the test for Avian flu- a test with a notorious fail rate of false positives, and who PAY THE FARMER for their dead chickens. And sell vaccines for the new flock.

This is why Mexico and Canada don't seem to have the same problem with the Avian flu- we have it, we just don't kill off entire flocks and try to start over. Nor can Mexico or Canada afford expensive mRNA vaccines for chickens. Nor do we incentivize testing.

So the same people who produce the VAX, the same big pharma that benefits from sick overweight diabetes prone consumers of big agriculture and big food processors, who DON'T want people on low carb diets like we all used to eat in the 30s and 40s- the same people that brought in that awful food pyramid.

These are behind the egg shortages, the chicken farm kill offs and the money for all this is coming from the AMERICAN TAX PAYER! The same people who pay their taxes, and suffer ill health.

I hate this World and the corruption. It’s like evil is being revealed every single day. I wonder if anything can or will be done about this abuse.

I think it will. This will come under RFK's gaze at some point. It's getting too much attention for him to not notice. I think that is why it's coming out in full view.

God sees it all, nothing is hidden from Him and He is exposing the evil. I was talking to my old friend Tina and she chuckled- I was telling her about the eggs and about the growth hormones in beef and pork and she said, Well Margery, isn't that why we say Grace over our food. I had to laugh, she's right. God keeps us in the palm of His Hand. There is nothing that can hurt us that He doesn't allow for His purposes. We are given good common sense and expected to do all we can, but about the stuff that we have no control over, the enemy hides it in hopes to harm us, God takes care of that.

Amen!! That is an encouraging perspective and I have to remember that when we pray for the Lord to bless our food.

I suspect I have eaten some stuff recently that might have been "not up to WF usual standards," but God is great, God is good, and we thank Him for this food . . .
God always blesses our food and protects us.

I hope it works this way with medication, as well, since they're taking away the good American-made name-brand Synthroid, and replacing with a generic, which is intended for Veterinary use, is made with a carcinogen, and the ingredients are from

Yes, I have COMPLAINED. So have other Vets, plus at least one pharmacist.

Oh NOOOOOOO.

I might be right beside you with the same drug because I just went to the bedroom and checked. Mine is Synthroid too. But if it's American made, our Canadian drug supply will go for the cheapest and that might mean substitution because tariffs on anything made in America. Sigh.

I say AMEN when you post grace over your food, and like you I believe in saying grace over our meds, that God would bless it to HIS use and if we eat any deadly thing, that God would preserve us till He takes us home.
