A commission drawn from the European Parliament and Council has agreed on the creation of a database to track millions of guns believed to be in civilian hands across the European Union.

Politico reported the upwards of “35 million” firearms are believed to be privately held and tracking those guns is being presented as a way of fighting gang violence and terrorism.

The database follows a 2022 move to switch from paper records in gun stores to electronic records, the latter of which can now be rolled into a centralized list.

Maybe that's where most of them are at. I thought a lot of the European countries already had disarmed their people, at least the law abiding ones.

I believe that England still has guns, but you must have a licence and be a member of a hunting club? Without looking it up, there are probably other countries actually within the EU that have similar requirements.

There are a lot of WWI and WWII vintage guns in Europe that will never be registered. People have long memories and fear another Hitler, Stalin, etc., and such firearms are lovingly cared for and passed down through the family. Hidden second and third basements, etc.

The WWI and II generations are dying off. I suspect that the younger generations won't be so prudent, at least not in great numbers.
