Forgiveness isn't a feeling, it's an active choice, and I choose forgiveness. But just in case you think it's easy, it's not. And it's moment by moment.
Really hear you. We know this is not our real home and have confident hope in our eternal future, but while we are here our hearts grieve at the suffering with current events we're in the midst of.
Choosing to forgive in the midst of such powerful, overwhelming, and all over the place emotions over the difficulty we see coming is hard. It's hard to peel the eyes off the problem to the One Who's the solution at times!
Boy, the books of Jeremiah, Ezekial, Habakkuk, etc. become even more relevant in terms of their shock, grief and dismay, don't they?
You put into words a very similar situation of mine many years back when a smooth talking leader came into power here. People around me didn't see it yet but I knew from my research that our country was in real, serious trouble. I was reeling inside trying to reconcile how we had gotten to that point. And I couldn't talk to anyone because everyone around me was infatuated.
Our hearts just break as we watch things unfold. We sigh and weep for the people we care about, our countries that stray further and further from God, and how our countries are undermined and pillaged in various ways. It's so heavy, disheartening at times.
Thank God He's bigger than even this and has an eternal plan. Yes, we know it but our hearts are overwhelmed in processing events sometimes.
This was where I asked God if He would remove the weight I couldn't bear, that He would diminish the emotions that were too much for me..... that He would instead encourage me somehow, give me His perspective, align me with His plans in the midst of what He's permitted.
By His grace, He did, by His power He comforted and helped me out of the deep mud. I know He will for you too, dear sister, and I know you know this but want to say it anyways....because sometimes we need the comfort of that friend to say it sometimes.
You know, Margery, last week (very busy and under the weather) you very much came to mind and I decided that perhaps you needed some extra prayer.... God knew you would need some prayer support and tapped the shoulder. So, know that God knows what you're going through, He cares and He got supportive prayer going on your behalf.
Continuing in prayer for you and all others here and the church at large.
