Carney's Beijing Gambit Triggers Trump Warning In The Form Of A Big Beautiful Map

TCC

Well-known

After over the weekend warning that he would impose a 10% tariff on imports from several European countries in response to their opposition to his Greenland takeover plan, later threatening the tariff could be raised to 25% within weeks if those governments fail to fall in line - President Trump has once again escalated, this time with an overnight Truth Social post of a map showing not just Greenland as part of the US but Canada too.

The image features President Trump addressing European leaders in the Oval Office. In the background is a map with Canada, Greenland, Venezuela and Cuba shown them as part of the United States, draped over by American flag colors.

Carney Cracks: Canada Has 'No Intention' Of Pursuing Free Trade Deal With China After Trump Threatens 100% Tariffs

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says Canada has "no intention" of pursuing a free trade deal with China, after Donald Trump threatened to slap a 100% tariff on Canadian exports if Ottawa "makes a deal" with Beijing.

To review: right before Davos, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney returned from a trip to Beijing and announced a new 5-point 'strategic partnership' to 'diversify our trade partnerships.' The agreements included slashing tariffs on Chinese EV imports from 100 percent to 6.1 percent for the first 49,000 units, in exchange for China cutting tariffs on Canadian canola from 85 percent to 15 percent until at least the end of the year. Other exports, including Canadian canola meal, lobsters, crabs, and peas will also not be subject to Chinese anti-discrimination tariffs until at least the end of 2026.

A week later, Carney told the global elite at Davos resort that the "rules-based order" established by the United States and its allies following WW2 was fraying amid the current rivalry between China and America, sothe "middle powers must act together because if we're not on the table, we're on the menu."

Carney said that for their survival, nations should no longer “go along to get along” with Trump.

This flew up Donald Trump <mod snip>, who issued a response on Truth Social Saturday:

If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken. China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on the morning of Jan. 24.

“If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

IMO if Canada is distressed due to foreign attack or natural disaster, it won’t be Beijing that comes alongside to help.

We don't have an sarcastic eye brow raised emoji response in the like button.

So let me say with full emphasis on the sarcasm, OH REALLY?????
:sarcasmmeter:

So what would have been the point in doing it in the first place?

Because getting the leader of the free world unnecessarily riled is counter intuitive to good results for the voters who stupidly let you into office!!!!

Altogether an ill considered response to benefit China at the cost of your own people.

Exactly what I've come to expect from our man at the WEF and in charge of Canada.

I feel your pain Margery in terms of having a bumbling id*t as leader of your country

At least he backed down. I suspect Trump was counting on that. When Trump came into office, I believe the first to go was that other guy who led Canada, if not mistaken. What was his name again?

I also feel your pain Margery. I preferred a more exciting world where Canada followed the Trump tradewinds and really pour heart and care into its people. Perhaps because of the power of central banking and the globalist reach, Peirre would not have lasted and maybe make moves like this one from Trump more unnecessarily complicated. For Trump, it seems like dealing with dems is miniature golf to him...lol.

@Hol Thanks for posting that. It is amazing to hear Carney spill the beans on the rules based system. Exposing how the rules were whatever we said they would be. Kudos for that. I guess it does not hurt to try and rally support against a Trump empire forming. I almost commend him for that. But that stance and moving toward China's good graces seemed to undo any sober tone Carney might have leveraged from telling on the system.

If Trump shifts the EU in a particular direction, it likely won't matter what Carney does. His support network would have fallen into Trump play anyway. I guess we will see.

@Margery even though Trump practically hand fed Carney to Canada, I'm glad to see at least some level of micromanaging to keep you guys out of the deeper embrace of China. I don't exactly believe the following, but it would seem to be Trumpian style. What if Trump admin uses playing cards against leftist leadership in order to vacuum pack them for spare fuel when he needs them. And in trade of their cooperation, he lets them lead more or less without desire of taking them completely down. This kind of seems like a Trump strategy with Tim Walz. Calling him governor recently instead of the garden variety names he has on tap.

Blessings.

Trudeau, Justin. Son of Pierre Trudeau another PM from the past. We seem to have been haunted by them.

YES!

Hmm hadn't thought of that. I mean yes, Trump did hand feed Carney to Canada- I think because he preferred a weaker option at the help considering his long range plans.

China however, you could be right on that. Trump wouldn't want too much of China to deal with, that has never been his happy place and Carney is beholden first to the WEF/Davos crowd and secondly to China. So perhaps we are in stage 2 of the takeover by Trump.
