Lawmakers in California have approved raising taxes on guns and ammunition as a way to raise money for school safety.

On Thursday, the California Senate passed a proposal to raise taxes on guns and ammunition by 11% as a way to help pay for school security upgrades and gun violence prevention programs.

The bill would be imposed on dealers and manufacturers beginning July 1, 2024.

The proposal was introduced by Democrat Assembly Member Jesse Gabriel who represents parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

I have very much doubt that there's any sincerity about this bill being about anything to help schools.

I think about the California Lottery that was put in place in 1984 to "help schools".

About California State lottery from their website.....

"Our Mission Is to Help California's Public Schools
The Lottery’s sole mission is to supplement funding for California’s public schools and colleges. Since we began in 1984, we’ve given schools more than $41 billion."

I include this in my comment because just as the state Lottery has Not been used to help find schools for the so called billions they claim have gone to the schools, teachers still are having to purchase school supplies for their own classrooms out of personal pocket expense.


Same with the California gas taxes that are outrageous and have gas prices to the sky with pretty much the highest gas prices in the nation, and the gas taxes are supposed to go to fixing roads and highways.

I know here in my city alone, the streets are broken and severely cracked and all that's done is patchwork with asphalt for the streets to break up again with the next rain fall.

They get billion in money from taxes and nothing to show for it.

Getting back to the OP.
IMO this bill is merely another way to infringe on the second amendment by putting the burden on gun owners because they know the second amendment cannot be resolved so they go around it with other laws and bills to make it harder to own guns.

If they don't go after the gun owners they go after the dealers in one fashion or another
