Atlanta pastor warns church's 'silence' on cultural issues will soon lead to 'godless society'
From Foxnews:

An Atlanta-area pastor says the majority of American churches have become too timid to engage with the culture on controversial issues and if this trend continues, it won't be long before the U.S. is a "godless" society.

Pastor Myles Rutherford believes it's time for a "remnant" of the faithful to stand up and speak out.

"The culture is loud. Satan is loud right now. However, I’ve seen the Church remain quiet on important issues out of fear," he addresses Christians in his new book, "Raise Your Voice."

He and his wife, DeLana, are the senior pastors of Worship with Wonders Church in Marietta, Georgia. He told Fox News Digital that he felt God's calling to write the book after noticing the evangelical church's "silence" in addressing today's cultural issues.

"Number one [my motivation for writing the book] was the majority of the silence of the American church over the last three years with major topics, relevant issues that were going on. And it just seems like the church was non responding," Rutherford said. "I just didn't hear anything. And so I really felt like there was something deeper involved. And I really prayed for the Lord to give me a revelation of understanding."

Been thinking about the OP for a while... I think any activism by Christians should be in sharing the gospel and being generous to those in need.

I vote in every election but beyond that I don't feel the need to become an activist on cultural or controversial issues. Our being Christian has become controversial. We're seen as haters and an impediment to the world going in the direction that it wants to go. Sounds like the Christian presence is creating some restraint anyway.

I think it depends on what it is and if it affects the church and what the Bible has to say about it.

If something is sin and the Bible talks about it or Biblical principles apply that show it is sin, Pastor better be preaching and teaching about it as sin, especially if church members and/or their families are involved and/or affected by people, who are involved. But also repentance and forgiveness, and, as appropriate, provide to or refer those needing practical help.

When TPTB here tried to treat churches differently/less favorably than other buildings/activities during covid, my denomination and the Catholics took action using the legal route and tools available to anyone to fight it because Acts 5:29 applied. We won and ultimately, churches here were treated better/more liberally than other places until everything opened up a lot more.

:bouncies:

:thankyou: JESUS!!! :thankyou:

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Acts 5:29, KJV

This is my first post here at this forum, so howdy to all and look forward to the discussions and fellowship.

The subject matter of this thread, to me, is quite complicated for the Christian, of which I am. It involves becoming politically active in some way. As to the fear of America becoming a 'godless society', to me, that has already taken place. Our government protects that and those which God abhors. Our government makes you a believer guilty of hate if you come against that.

For a Christian to stand up actively against this Godless society, brings not only the attack from the Godless society, but also from other Christians. For, other Christians will say you shouldn't be involved in politics. Just preach the Gospel.

For myself, it appears to me that God always provides a political govenment that is favorable towards His people, so that they may thrive and multiply and bring the Gospel of Christ to the world. But of course it is always with a cost first.

Did not God do that with Israel? He provided a theocracy and protected them from their enemies. He established them in a land and destroyed their enemies in that land.

And, did not God do that with America? A Christian and Bible believing people were given a land and a government based upon the Bible. But always with a cost, of course.

So, if God did establish America as a Christian country, are not Christians responsible to maintain that? As I said, it is complicated.
