Just waiting for the Rapture at this point!
An Act of God
An elderly Christian couple living in Florida had lightning strike their home, which severely damaged many of their electrical appliances including their air conditioner. Fortunately the couple had home owners insurance and promptly put in a claim. An adjuster from the insurance company came to their house to inspect the damage and told the couple they should hear from the insurance company in a few days.
A few days later the couple received the following letter.
“Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, We have reviewed your claim and regret to inform you that your home owners policy does not cover ‘Acts of God’. As a lightning strike is considered to be an ‘Act of God’, we cannot honor your claim. If you wish to dispute our decision, please contact Mr. James Biltmore in writing stating your position.”
The couple promptly sent the following letter to Mr. Biltmore.
“Dear Mr. Biltmore, as we are an elderly Christian couple and have very little money, our only option was to pray to God and ask for his help to repair our damaged appliances. God told us not to worry as your company would reluctantly honor our claim and pay for all the damages.”
The couple later received the following letter from Mr. Biltmore a strong atheist.
“Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, I am so sorry that your house was struck by lightning severely damaging your electrical appliances. Unfortunately we are only able to honor what is stated in your homeowner’s policy. As an American I fully support your right to worship a god or what ever you would like to worship. If that god speaks to you, that’s fine also. I however am an educated realist and only believe in what is logical and can be proven. Therefore I cannot honor your claim because you say your god said I would, as there is no such thing as god.”
The couple promptly sent the following letter to Mr. Biltmore.
“Dear Mr. Biltmore, you state that there is no such thing as God. As an American, I respect your right to believe that. Regarding my homeowners policy however, it clearly states that the only thing that is not covered is ‘Acts of God’. You say that there is no such thing as God, yet your company claims that God was responsible for the lightning strike. As an educated logical thinking realist, please explain to me how a non existent God can be responsible for the lightning strike.”
As not to be embarrassed in court by Mr. Johnson’s logic, Mr. Biltmore fully honored the Johnsons claim.
While this is a made up story, it is just one example of how what atheists believe is not logical at all.
