A Whole Civilization Will Die Tonight?

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump · April 7, 2026, 8:06 AM

A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!

Trump is bloviating of course, in the hopes it will move the Iranian leadership to give up...

It's not a war crime when you hit legitimate targets where civilians are congregating. It seems that those who are showing up at the probable target list sites are supporters of the regime so this is a chance to thin out regime supporters as well as to take out power and bridges.

During the Iraq war, Iraq tried to stop us from bombing legitimate targets by using human shields, a strategy that did not end well for them.

"War crime" is not the issue in this statement.
To say that a "whole civilization will die tonight" is disturbing, even IF it is said to move the leadership to give up.
Its obvious that leadership doesnt care about the people of Iran, so I dont see how it would move them to give up.
Im sorry, but some things should not be said.
We have a prayer thread for one of the fastest growing churches in the world in Iran and as a Christian this makes his statement very disturbing.

No, but there should be no issue with me adding that point of detail as some who don't understand might think that those targets are not legitimate.

I don't find his bloviating disturbing. He has a purpose in mind. If all power and bridges are destroyed, a whole civilization will not die tonight, but the country will be in a really bad way. Life there will be much more difficult than it is now. Everyone in Iran will find their lives much more difficult. I do suspect that those Iranians who do not support their regime are more concerned with the regime staying in power than they are losing their power and bridges.

You have a right to express your opinion.
However, words matter, and this is supported by scripture on how the tongue should be bridled.
We should care about the people of Iran, but sometimes human judgement can only lead to catastrophy.
I believe God has a better plan (purpose), and this is what I support. I know according to Jeremiah 49 it says that in the latter days God will set up His throne in Iran, meaning that the people there will be worshippers of God, and this tells me the whole civilization will Not die.

At this point in time, the comments and promises being made could be a clever ruse for something different that's going to occur. Things will be a little more clear in the morning.

Meanwhile, I'm not going to fret over a secular leader of a country at war making statements that might be uncomfortable to one's ears. It doesn't matter if my ears are uncomfortable or not. We're at war.

Agree. With Trump, you cant always tell what actions he has already approved based on his comments. Very smart.

If there is an inference there that I don't care about the people of Iran, it is not correct.
.
We're at war and people get hurt and people die. That reality is connected to war. Always has been.
I never Implied that you dont care
Im looking at the words exactly as they are stated.
"Tonight a whole civilization will die".
I dont see expected wartime casualties mentioned. I see what the words say meaning what they say a Whole Civilization will die
How can that not be clear?

I get the sense that Trump is not liking having to take the actions he may feel forced to take with a leadership that seems to be irredeemably hardened to evil..... to their own people's great harm.

In this case, I think he's not wanting to have to take further actions of restraining evil that would also cause the people difficulty on top of their existing troubles. Thus his remarks to emphasize his concern for the people and his desire for Iranian leadership to make better decisions.

I can't imagine all that he's having to face and also all that he's in knowledge of in his position. So, I filter what's said with this in mind, that there's things going on I have no idea of...... and I pray.

I appreciate your concern

In context, what he wants is Iran’s unconditional surrender. He’s stated how he deeply cares for Iranians, he calls them ‘the great people of Iran’ and his comment about a whole civilization dying is a threat.

It’s like a four-yr old darting into a busy street. You can imagine an intense & immediate dire threat heard yelled out by one of the parents.

"Tonight a whole civilization will die".

Like I probably said upstream, that statement doesn't bother me in the least. I was bothered by something our President either said or wrote a day or two ago. I found the language offensive. I got over it in about 5 seconds though. While it was extremely offensive to me I don't have the expectation that it would have been offensive to everyone or anyone else.

If we destroy all the power plants and bridges of the enemy we're at war with tonight, that won't bother me either.

I choose to Trust in the justice our Lord Jesus will bring and because I believe we are extremely close to His return, I dont need to look to any human being to fix a problem that only Jesus can and will fix because the atrocities happening in Iran is not isolated to Iran. The same atrocities exist in N Korea, China, Russia and pretty much all over the world in different forms.
Nobody can fix all of this worlds injustices but Jesus and He doesnt need our help.
This world is not going to get better by any human means. Jesus described it as birth pains. I guess only a woman who has given birth can understand birth pains and how they dont get better but worsen until delivery and Only Jesus is our deliverer.
I have tried to stay focused on God and what His Word says. But sometimes my purpose for what I say is misunderstood.
We are here for a purpose, to continue what Jesus started, in sharing the gospel of salvation, not to fix what only He can fix.
We should be united in being Ambassadors for Christ. Not divided for things in this world that is not our home.
We are to fix our eyes on the unseen, the things of Heaven, not on what is seen and perishing.

Thats true, when He comes. Our problem is we dont know exactly when He will call the church Home, then deal with those left behind. For now, we can try and stop a rogue state sponsor of terrorism from attacking other countries, especially if they get a nuke.

I also believe, just like I have for the last 15 years, that we are close, very close. But only He knows when that will happen. We could all be wrong and not be as close as we want to believe.

Yes. Let's try to separate ourselves from the things of this world and keep our focus on the things of God, the purpose for which we are here on this planet. And that is to proclaim the gospel in love to everyone we can and to disciple in love those who are saved.

What is happening in this world is terrible. Our current leadership and our military are not the cause of it, but are trying to find a way to end some of the worst abuses. Many Iranians are calling on America to continue the bombing: they say they would rather die than continue to live under the murderous and evil abuses of the current Islamic regime. They say we have no idea how evil it is. And experts around the world have testified that its goal is the eradication of Israel and the complete subjection of all people in the West (and eventually the world) to Allah.

Some people scoff at that. After all, Iran is just one country. So was Germany in the 1930s. And Hitler was just one man. But look at the destruction, look at the horrors, look at the millions upon millions of dead caused by that one country ... that one man. Iran must be stopped. It must not be allowed to continue to murder its people or cause harm to the people of other countries. And it must not be allowed to gain weapons of mass destruction, which is its goal in order to pursue the goal of world communication for the glory of Allah.

War is conducted on many levels. I do not worry about the rhetoric from either side. Much of it is regretful from a loving, Christian perspective. But in the way the world works it is deemed necessary by the world leaders who employ it. The things of the world are of the world.

I look forward to the day when, under Christ, this world will be ruled perfectly, judgement will be flawless, and life will be safe, secure, and joyful. For now, I pray ... I focus on the purpose Christ gave us on this earth ... and I keep my eyes lifted to the Heavens from whence will come our blessed hope. By the grace of God may we take many with us when we go.
