I was a young hippie when I got saved during the โJesus Movementโ of the late 60โs and 70โs. We were known for being โsold out to Jesusโ, โon fireโ for Christ, challenging and shaking up the institutional church. A lot of good came out of that revival movement. But I mistakenly believed that to really make my life count for the kingdom of God, I had to be radical, and do something extraordinary.
But I have learned that the Word of God calls us to ordinary faithfulness.
Ordinary does not mean ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ต๐ช๐ค or ๐ญ๐ข๐ป๐บ or ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐จ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต. It means that in everyday life, you love and serve your spouse and the children God has given you. You work hard and honestly for a living. You change diapers, pay bills, mow the lawn, feed the cat, cook dinner, read to the kids, take out the garbage, and care for your aging parents. (1 Timothy 5:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12)
Certainly some of Godโs children are called by Him to do something far-reaching and ๐ฆ๐น๐ต๐ณ๐ข-ordinaryโฆ but thatโs not most of us. And thatโs okay.

Kermit the Frog sang, You too may think you blend in with so many other ordinary things, passed over by people. But if you recall, midway through his song, the beloved muppet became aware of the positive side to ordinaryโฆ and in the end, he confidently sings that he's happy to be โgreenโ -- โ๐๐ตโ๐ด ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ข๐ถ๐ต๐ช๐ง๐ถ๐ญ, ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฌ ๐ช๐ต'๐ด ๐ธ๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ ๐ธ๐ข๐ฏ๐ต ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ฃ๐ฆ.โ
For all believers who live ordinary, unnoticed, but faithful livesโฆ you are every bit Godโs workmanship as you walk in the good works God has prepared for you. You are His hands and feet. His light is shining through you.
