FBI special agents are still being paid despite the ongoing government shutdown, President Donald Trump and FBI Director Kash Patel said during an Oval Office press conference Wednesday.


“We got the people that we want paid — paid,” Trump said. “And we want the FBI paid and we want the military paid.”

The Defense Department on Wednesday repurposed, possibly unlawfully, approximately $8 billion in unobligated research and development funding for service member pay. Likewise, the Homeland Security Department on Tuesday said that it would use money from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to ensure members of the Coast Guard don’t miss paychecks this week.

Neither Trump or Patel addressed where the funding is coming from for agent pay. And the FBI didn’t respond to a request for comment, but an automatic reply noted that all agency employees are considered essential during a shutdown.

I have concerns about this. I love the fact that Trump can use the shutdown to further reduce wasteful spending and eliminate "pork" programs, but not paying hard working employees who many live week to week like many of us is troubling. I know they will get their checks when the shutdown ends, but how are they going to buy groceries this week? I remember a time in my life that a week without a paycheck I would not have been able to feed my children. I didn't even have a credit card. People who have never struggled have no idea what it's like to be scared to think about losing your weekly paycheck.

I'm wondering if I'll get social security and my retirement and disability pay, all of which should be funded, but I really have no idea. I live with a financial cushion though, so will be able to ride out the govmint closure if it does affect me.

Statistically speaking, it could put about 95% of people who don't get paid into fairly dire straights right away. Most folks aren't adept at managing their resources and don't plan for rainy days.

It will be good for banks that issue credit cards as many won't be able to make payments on their balances.

Not only income issues, but we have clients waiting to close on their homes using USDA funds which are suspended. (The USDA website, by the way, has a great banner declaring that due to the Radical Left Democrat Shutdown the site is not open/updated-- that Pres Trump wants to keep the economy open but liberals do not.)

Other loans are being delayed since we can't verify employment.

Unfortunately there will be fall out. I'm sure the founding fathers are turning over in their graves. They would have never pictured an America where big government could hold a country hostage. That would probably be the furthest thing from their minds...lol. Not laughing at a tragic situation, its just so much the opposite of country design. And unfortunately it looks like growing pains for a country needing to grow beyond the crime syndicate (I mean the left) and find better ways to fund the country than indepting it all over the place.

I know unfortunately too that Medi-cal was abused. But I don't believe that was the best Trump move previously...to so downsize it. To me that is reminiscent of Bush/Reagon shutting down the mental institutions in America.

But on an up note, have we ever seen new influx of monies to pay for huge payrolls during a shutdown before? I don't think we have though. Which testifies to a Trump global reset...lol...but hopefully for the people.

Probably not. I'm thinking that right around the end of the month the govmint will opren back up again, otherwise there wii be too many affected voters who will have long memories and the majority are blaming demonrats.

Meanwhile, our enemies are trying to fuel "no king" riots again. They failed the first time. We'll see what happens this time. If they were to succeed it could be very dangerous for our country. Seeding massive unrest is a road taken to overthrow govmints.

Truly needy people here in Illinois have just been informed by IDHS that the Trump administration has notified the state that due to the current situation people will not receive their SNAP benefits starting November 1. This will definitely hurt a lot of the poorest families. To me it is obvious that Illinois, as a Democrat party leader state, is being used to turn ordinary people against the Trump administration.

Contrary to popular belief, I think a lot of people are NOT actually understanding the Republican messaging that the government shutdown is the result of the Democrats. And I think that party is gambling that they can use this shutdown to actually destroy the GOP's chances of success in the midterms next year. Voters have long memories and if the Democrats can flip the script on the shutdowns by hurting the average person, that is what they are counting on.
