‘Kingdom Now?’: Today’s Self-Appointed Prophets And Apostles Need A Reality Check

By Jan Markell for
Harbinger's Daily

Is the church anointed to reign? The short answer is no, but let me state the problem and explain my answer.

Understand that I am thankful Donald J. Trump was elected our next U.S. President. I think he is good for the gospel, and that is just a huge factor as we wind down the Church Age. Too many on the Left are clearly enemies of the gospel.

But his election produced the following headline I caught: Trump Win Brings Era of Church ‘Anointed to Reign’. In a statement by Tim Sheets, brother of Dutch Sheets, in early December. It represents the false teaching of Kingdom Now or Dominion Theology, often promoted in the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR).

The church is not appointed or anointed to reign. Jesus Christ is in his thousand-year Millennial reign on earth.

Sheets said on the Elijah List that God told him that it’s time for a newly confident ekklesia—a term dominionists use to refer to the church as a governing body on Earth—to exercise a higher level of authority. He said the church now has a “prevailing anointing” and is “overwhelming hell’s effort on Earth.”

NAR leaders teach that modern-day apostles and prophets, and their Christian followers are meant to take dominion over governments and other institutions of cultural influence to speed the day when a triumphant church will rule and reign with a returning Christ.

One of the fastest-growing false teachings in the church today is called by various names: Kingdom Now, Dominion Theology, Reconstructionism, and the Restoration Movement. It is an effort to use the church to make the world perfect for our Lord’s return.

The excellent online resource, Got Questions (GotQuestions.org), writes, “Lance Wallnau coined the term Seven Mountain Mandate and is one of its prominent teachers (within Dominionism). Wallnau adapts the missionary mandate of Jesus to His disciples to ‘go and make disciples’ of all the nations into a mandate to effect social transformation. He reasons that, since churches already have a presence in every nation in the world, we need to now concentrate on influencing the systems (the ‘mountains’) within these nations.

“The seven mountains are education, religion, family, business, arts/entertainment, and media. These seven sectors of society are thought to mold the way everyone thinks and behaves. So, to tackle societal change, these seven “mountains” must be transformed. Those who follow the seven mountain mandate speak of ‘occupying’ the mountains, ‘invading’ the culture, and ‘transforming’ or ‘taking back’ society.”

This theology is borne out of the Manifest Sons of God movement and Latter Rain movement in about 1948. It also has ties to the positive confession movement.

The number one purpose of the church is to take away the souls of men from Satan. The rest of society may be a lost cause because of the Fall in the Garden. The world is a sinking Titanic ripe for judgment, not Garden of Eden perfection. Jesus will take dominion over the cleansed earth. For men to speak of doing that before the judgment of this earth is spiritually arrogant and ignorant.

There are far too many verses in the Bible that speak of the coming apostasy in the church and not the glorification of the church! The Bible says that in the last days, the church will not give heed to sound doctrine (2 Timothy 4:3-4) and will feature far too many “doctrines of demons” (I Timothy 4:1). There will actually be “wolves among the flock” (Acts 20:29).

That does not sound like a reigning church. That’s because the world requires a reigning Messiah serving His Millennial kingdom. Today’s self-appointed prophets and apostles who are Dominion proponents need to do a reality check.

I didn't realize Lance Wallnau (very bad "teacher"- in the NAR) was responsible for that evil 7 mountain mandate.

I bumped into the teaching in that church G and I were exe'd out of in the late 90's. I had heard of Lance back then too. He was touted as a "great prophet"

It always made me wonder, why on EARTH would any so called Christian leader want to control 7 mountains, when we can CLEARLY see that is where the Whore of Babylon parks her sorry backside.

Talk about self identification-- The Whore of Babylon is proud of herself there for sitting on 7 mountains, which are 7 kings- it's all there in Revelation 17:9 and the whole chapter.

It's like Lance and the rest of the apostates that run in that same Theological error have a big sign on them saying- Look here and SEE the Whore of Babylon trying to rise to the occasion. Getting herself ready for the Tribulation.

These heretical doctrines will likely come into play after the Church is gone, while the false church gets into all kinds of compromise with other religions and the world system in general.

I guess Lance didn't get that far in the Bible, to read Rev 17:9

Apart from this forum and in listening to other solid teachings, this is the first time I’ve heard that there are some who claim wrongly, that because Donald Trump won the election, it’s time for “the church to reign…”. This was written by Tim Sheets, brother of Dutch Sheets, who having never heard of him, had to check him out. Stay away from this guy! As Jan’s article says, this thinking based on the false teaching of one who mixes “biblical” teaching with extra-Biblical teachings and practices. This man is a walking talking rep for Dominion Theology often promoted within the false teachings of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). I’ve attached Jan’s article for your reading. He’s actually promoting the idea that now is the time for the church to reign. We know that this NEVER happens - Jesus will reign beginning with His Millenium Kingdom rule.

Sadly, many ears will be “tickled” by this false teaching. Praying that they open their ears to the truth of the gospel!

From the article: “The world is a sinking Titanic ripe for judgment, not Garden of Eden perfection. Jesus will take dominion over the cleansed earth. For men to speak of doing that before the judgment of this earth is spiritually arrogant and ignorant.”

This is such a twisted teaching!

It's true that believers in Jesus will Reign with Christ but not before Christ has brought all under His sovereign authority at the start of His millennial Kingdom.

But, the Church isn't going to reign ahead of and without Christ or before other believers yet to be saved!

Paul alluded to this when chastising the Corinthians for judging before the right time and separating into sects of all good leaders they preferred, as a result, notice his words:

You think you already have everything you need. You think you are already rich. You have begun to reign in God’s kingdom without us! I wish you really were reigning already, for then we would be reigning with you.

1 Corinthians 4:8

Revelation 10-11 showcases God preparing the earth for Christ's eternal Reign through the complete destruction of the Satanically charged Gentile Powers. Cities around the globe will be decimated as those bowls of God's wrath come pouring down. The earth will be globally and supernatually raized over. That's not happened yet.

Revelation 11 gives a peak into the joyful celebration of the Church in Heaven before God's finally clearing of the earth of evil to make way for Jesus Christ's Kingdom. They speak of the kingdoms of the world coming under the power and authority of Jesus.....not because of man's puny efforts but by God's, direct, powerful, supernatural hand.....alone.

Excellent reply, sister!

Maybe a dumb question, but does "Kingdom Now" refer to the belief that we are now in the "Kingdom" and there will be no 1000-year millennium Kingdom ruled by Christ?
Not a dumb question at all, I wonder about the same thing.

I mean there are so many different versions. There are Israel haters who think their future is ruling the world w/o Israel and as they cut 1/3 out of their Bible they toss out any hope of a rapture.

Then there’s the social gospel (i.e., the Gospel Coalition) who promote a sort of kingdom on earth building through opening arms for lgbtqrsz-whatever crowd AND applaud stuff like abortion, transing our kids, gay marriage—each group to varying degrees.

Then there’s the extreme conservative right churches that seriously want the US to have a political body full of elected Christians, ushering in a kingdom.

Maybe the one common thread is that they don’t love their Bibles fully in its entirety :noidea:

Maybe a dumb question, but does "Kingdom Now" refer to the belief that we are now in the "Kingdom" and there will be no 1000-year millennium Kingdom ruled by Christ?
Yes it does.

They see the Kingdom as now- and they are Preterists, who also think that Nero was the AC and Revelation has largely taken place in an allegorical fashion within that first century.

They believe that the church has a mandate from God to crush the world under them, forcing a form of godliness on the unbelievers.

They have a form of Calvinism in that they think only those called by God to believe will do so, and the rest need to be under a "christian" jackboot to enforce "righteousness". It's the Irresistable Grace which is the I in the TULIP acronym that covers the bases of Calvinism.

There is little to no mercy or grace, and due to the theology they believe that the church replaced Israel. So they are usually mildly to dreadfully antisemitic in their replacement theology.

Furthermore you can spot the 7 mountains mandate in this- the 7 areas of dominion that the church will eventually subdue. They believed in that dominion long before the 7 mountains teaching came out. So variations of them don't use the 7 mountains idea but the principle behind it is the same.

Their eschatology insists that they must bring the world under dominion before Christ can or will return to rule thru eternity.

So the return of Christ is at the end of a non defined period of time that began at the cross and resurrection and or Pentecost, and continues till the church presents the world dominated by them as some form of gift to Christ. He can't return till the church does it's duty and stomps out evil.

This IS the kingdom, it is NOW and there is not real 1000 years, they view those scriptures as allegorical.

That theology bleeds into the NAR movement (New Apostolic Reformation) started by C.Peter Wagner and it appeals to the Young Restless Reform movement along with Rushdoony's Calvinist Christian Reconstructionism. His son in law Gary North is influential in the Christian Reconstructionist movement.

Some other groups that are influenced by this are the Quiverfull movement, and the "christian" neo nazi movement known as Christian Identity. Another group is Douglas Wilson's Classical method of homeschooling, and his Logos School in Moscow Idaho. Douglas is invovled in the Reconstructionist movement. Another one that runs in the same circles is Bill Gothard's Institute in Basic Life Principles- a cult that infiltrated the Homeschool movement.

There are roots into the heretical Latter Rain movement of the late 40s that morphed into several other bad groups. Including some strains of the Prosperity or Health and Wealth preachers.

Oddly you will see charismatics involved as well as the more legalistic NON charismatics over in the Christian Reconstructionists and Reform churches that absolutely have kittens over charismatic stuff. But they will work together occaisionally, and this is their common point of reference that they share.

Hal Lindsey's book The Everlasting Hatred mentions how difficult it is to pin down this theology since it infiltrates a lot of groups. He said in there it is like nailing Jello to the wall. I read that book when I was trying to figure out why my ex church back in the late 90's went so desperately bad.

It was this type of theology he was talking about. Hal was right.

It's a form of replacement theology. It is antisemitic to the core. The church replaces Israel.

It's a doctrine of works- it places Christ's return subject to the church's ability to stomp out evil and force a form of godliness onto the world.

It denies Scripture, it allegorizes anything that gets in the way of it's aberrent theology.

It denies salvation for all, deciding that grace and salvation are only for a few, and they are irresistably called- which eliminates free will and actual grace. This denies the sufficiency of the Cross.

It doesn't place an emphasis on mission work- but on punishing the evildoers.

Hope that helps.

They believe that the church has a mandate from God to crush the world under them, forcing a form of godliness on the unbelievers.

Great analysis!

One of the fruits of leaders suscribing to this movement is authoritarian abusiveness that emerges. After all, they are in their minds reigning now, thus their word and teachings are not to be challenged at all (even though the Bible encourages Berean scriptural research/comparison).

So, for those who may have a hard time pinning down what's going on in a church promoting this, unchallenged abusive words and behavior is a red flag to start with as far as realizing and recognizing (and pray for them). And pray for the Lord to give you guidance, wisdom, protection and highlighting His truth in His Word to counter lies.

There seems to be an ascribing of Old Testament like prophets with the 'touch not my annointed' attitude.

But this is not what the Church leadership is to be acting like, rather:

The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient, instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance leading them to the knowledge of the truth.

2 Timothy 2:24-25

Shepherd God’s flock among you, not overseeing out of compulsion but freely, according to God’s will; not for the money but eagerly; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

1 Peter 5:2-3

Maybe a dumb question, but does "Kingdom Now" refer to the belief that we are now in the "Kingdom" and there will be no 1000-year millennium Kingdom ruled by Christ?
I’m currently working on reading all the replies… but you will see Kingdom Now associated many times with the NAR ( New Apostolic Reformation) who push the 7 Mountain Mandates ideologies Or dominionism…. They believe they need to take dominion over the following 7 areas : business, entertainment, education, religion, family , media , and government..
By “ Christianizing” these areas , they are hastening the return of Jesus and his searing up of his kingdom on earth….
The NAR has infiltrated many churches and our own government especially more recently with the last election
Some of the well known players ( it is possible that some who are jumping on this bandwagon, are not knowingly doing so or at the least, don’t understand that they’re supporting this unbiblical narrative) :
Lance Wallnau, Charlie Kirk , many of the conservative media figures like Steve Bannon , Alex Jones , Mike Lindell ( the pillow guy ) as well as Politicians such as William Federer , Tony Perkins , Michelle Bachman , Michael Flynn

I’ll just out a link as there’s too many to list

Btw, I’m just gonna say it so please if you disagree or i unintentionally step on a toe or two …. I’m just trying to share the facts :

Many in the Calvary Chapels have linked up with many political figures, and conservatives who are unquestionably involved in the NAR and kingdom now agenda…
Charlie Kirk is repeatedly and even recently a guest speaker at Jack Hibbs church

Jan Markell just posted her newest interview with Michelle Bachman ( they have been friends for years )

Tom Hughes has done 2 interviews with Alan Didio who I just saw being exposed again as the false teacher he is ( huge kingdom now support and how lucky that God personally speaks to him directly and he’s been privileged to visit Heaven .
( I’ve already mentioned Lee Brainard and his interview)

Tom H. and Tim Thompson just did an interview with Jonathan Cahn … for more exposing of him , go to the Berean Call ( originally founded by Dave Hunt) who has many videos explaining the issues with Cahn and his books / claims

Prior to this last election, Tim Thompson was having Billy Crone Sarah at his Temecula church for a prophecy conference… prior to Billy getting ready to speak , Tim literally mentioned Paula White , played a clip of her supporting Trump and advocating prayer ( and it’s not an issue with praying for the man ) but then Tim agreed with Paula’s sentiments and said he daily joins her in prayer ( maybe not literally but still… he basically had just praised a known heretic who is now the head of Trump’s Religion department.
Then Crome came up to speak and he said nothing about Paula yet he had already done many videos on her shenanigans which he posts in his website, get a life media …

Jack Hibbs joined with Che Ahn awhile back at a prophecy conference

Jack has also repeatedly and recently been a guest in Joni Lamb’s Table Talk show (on her billion dollar Daystar network ) which she frequently also has Jesse Duplantis, Joyce Meyer , Alan Didio , the Osteens, Kenneth Copeland…. If you can name a false teacher, they’ve been a guest

Charlie Kirk , and his TPUSA hosted many of the Trump rallies and who were some of the attendees that Trump acknowledged and received praise .. Paula Whiite, Jentezen Franklin

If anyone remembers / knows me from the past forum , this topic lights a fire in my soul and my passion to lay it all out becomes evident.

James Kaddis, is also great friends with Kirk and has had him speak on his channel too .. what has recently been unnerving to me anyway is Andy Woods has started interviewing with Kaddis and Tom
and in his PPOV podcast ( posts it every Friday ) he continually praises how Trump is helping restrain evil by what he’s passing access trying to do with the lgbtq and other issues … while it may be somewhat … Underlying all of it is the same agenda and imo , what is being supported and implemented and seen as a conservative/ Christian “ win “ are things that down the road will backfire ….

John Haller is another who has great informative prophecy updates but in the past he never affiliated with the Calvary chapel people I’ve mentioned and even at one point years ago had defended Jacob Pratch ( a pastor friend who is well known on YouTube and is affiliated with Haller’s church) when he blasted Jan Markell for her eschatological views… but now he’s become part of the CC circle

So much more could be said and I feel like I’m rambling and all over the place …

So I’ll just end this post with this , I have repeatedly said associations matter and many people didn’t agree , didn’t like my saying that and got very upset ( and still do ) when one of their favorite pastors is questioned and called to accountability…

Do the research but it takes time ….

Lastly , this isn’t at all about judging these people’s salvation it’s about calling in to question why they are compromising with known heretics and yet none will respond to any comments I’ve left , emails and yes , even letters I’ve sent asking for answers … I get blocked , deleted and told not so nice things.

It’s fine to take a stand and want to put people in office or other areas in society that have a moral compass so we can keep as much of the evil out of it all… but it’s not going to go that way forever…The current focus of the 7 areas aforementioned is no doubt in politics … however , what is most concerning is these involved Christians are hyper focused on “ saving the nation “
at the expense of individual salvation because they are bent on fixing the government and such …. We know that eventually no matter who is in office , what policies are passed , that it will come to an end and the coming AC government will be implemented because the Bible says so …
Way too many are lacking discernment and are pushing an agenda and in doing so in turn , influences their congregants and YouTube subscribers and more and more are joining in …. And dare I add at the expense in some cases towards Israel …

Antisemitism is not just on the rise in the secular but in the church and people praising Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens x both who are absolutely antisemitic ( Kirk hide it well, Owens doesn’t even try ) are fueling it in part as are those like Hibbs who ironically has stood for Israel yet hobnobbs with many, like Kirk who has strayed from supporting Israel and the people … then there’s good ol Tucker Carlson ..

All of this is intertwined with Kingdom Now 😳

That should be enough from me to chew on….
Sorry for any typos or resulting migraines for sharing my take !

Although a lengthy article, this explains so much including the role the kingdom now philosophies have on our politics… it names those prominent in the movement and not just the concerns but the influence within today’s church … I’m not sure if the author was coming from a Christian perspective but regardless it was definitely an accurate representation

You are so right. One of the signs I didn't realize till later in that church I often reference, was a top down heavy authoritarian attitude combined with frequent use of touch not the lord's anointed"

Very very good points. We don't "save a nation" we evangelize people around us, and by God's grace, individuals get saved, and then change the course of the nation. We are commanded to pray for the leaders that God installs over us. Whether we like them or not.

I don't know now of any denomination or group that hasn't had some part of Kingdom Now, NAR, Reconstructionism, Reform, Neo Puritan movement, Latter Rain, Word Faith movement and their related theologies touch their churches in some form or other. Books, bible study materials, courses, seminars, seminaries, YouTube teaching, or just friend to friend dynamics. All spread the heresies.

I forgot to include the church growth movement such as Willow Creek, Purpose Driven in my post above. Lynn Hybels the wife of Bill Hybels founders of Willow Creek and the whole church growth movement is responsible for much of the growth of the Christian Palestinian theology Christ at the Checkpoint infecting much of evangelical Protestantism. They ascribe to replacement theology and like Purpose Driven"s Rick Warren likes to say- stay away from teaching prophecy, it divides. Something that the Word Faith preacher Joel Osteen of Living Your Best Life NOW follows in his Word Faith lite church down in Texas.

They may not follow every point of Kingdom Now but they sure align with a lot of it's teachings.

A little leaven, leaveneth the whole lump- Gal 5:9

I think it can be summed up as part of the process that has Laodicea at the very end of the church age.

The Whore of Babylon is rising, and she's false religion that wants to ride the political beast! Which is why the Paula White's and Dutch Sheets are drawn like bees to honey towards politics. Unlike some of the genuine pastors that support Trump, these 2 and their kind seem drawn to power, and it fits when you understand their theology and how important getting power and using it to control others is.

You know, in thinking about this thread, it reminds me how super important it is to to keep our Pastors and church leaders in prayer. There's so much going on with immense stress and pressures coming from all sorts of places, not to mention the spiritual attacks and onslaught.

I've seen a whole church turn around, one that fervent prayer was sent up to our Sovereign God for. He graciously intervened and some have communicated to me how they've learned so much more about God's Word than they ever had.

Our prayers have great impact with God, He's very attentive and actively listening. He's able to divinely move in response to our supportive prayers.

This is the only attitude to have in all of this, in context of daily personal Bible study.
