Yemen: Cruise missile fired by Houthis strikes commercial tanker

Almost Heaven

Well-known
A land-based cruise missile launched from Houthi-controlled Yemen struck a commercial tanker vessel on Monday night, causing a fire and damage but no casualties, two US defenses officials told Reuters.

The attack on the motor transport STRINDA took place about 60 nautical miles north of Bab al-Mandab Strait, one of the officials said. US Navy destroyer Mason was on scene and rendering aid, the officials said.

Earlier, Britain's Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said it had received a report of an incident affecting a vessel in the vicinity of Bab al-Mandab.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Two missiles fired from territory held by Yemen’s Houthi rebels missed a commercial tanker loaded with Indian-manufactured jet fuel near the key Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Wednesday, a US official said.

An American warship also shot down a suspected Houthi drone flying in its direction during the incident, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters. No one was hurt in the attack, the official said.

The assault on the tanker Ardmore Encounter further internationalizes a campaign by the Iranian-backed rebels targeting ships close to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. That potentially imperils cargo and energy shipments coming through the Suez Canal and further widens the international impact of the Israel-Hamas war raging in the Gaza Strip.

Supply Chain Under Threat As Major Shipping Company Halts Critical Route Travel

Major shipping company Mearsk has halted all cargo ship travel through the Red Sea as Iranian backed Houthi terrorists continue their assault in the region.

"Container shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S instructed its vessels heading for the southern entrance of the Red Sea to pause their voyages after one of its carriers came under attack. The move threatens to undermine the global economic recovery and adds to pressure on the US to improve security along one of the worlds most important trade routes," Bloomberg reports. "Disruptions in the area can snarl supply chains and world trade. Back in 2021, the grounding of the Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal for almost a week, throwing ships off schedule for months and tightening the available of cargo space. That accident was estimated to have cut capacity by 20% to 30% for several weeks."

The move comes after a Maersk ship was attacked by drones over the past 24 hours.

Somebody please drop something heavy on the heads of those in Yemen who seem to live to make the rest of us miserable.
