Well-known
Yemen’s Iranian proxy, the Houthis, have reportedly hijacked an Israeli-owned vessel in the Red Sea, according to a report by the Al Arabiya news outlet.

The “Galaxy Leader” is a vehicle carrier built in 2002, sailing under the flag of the Bahamas from Kanda, Japan, and had 22 crew members aboard; initial reports claim none were Israeli. Unconfirmed reports claimed all crew members were Japanese nationals.

The ship is owned by the UK-based Ray Car Carriers company, owned by Israeli-British shipping magnate Dan David Ungar, 46, together with partner Robin Charles Woods.

IDF: Ship hijacked by Houthis on Red Sea not Israeli

The Galaxy Leader is registered under a British company partially owned by an Israeli tycoon.
Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have hijacked a ship on the Red Sea, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Sunday.

“The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very grave incident of global consequence,” the IDF said.
The hijacked Galaxy Leader, a Bahaman-flagged vessel, is registered by a British company partially owned by Israeli tycoon Abraham Ungar.

The Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem released a statement confirming the ship was being operated by a Japanese firm and had 25 crew members on board from Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Philippines and Mexico.

“The ship departed Turkey on its way to India, staffed by civilians of various nationalities, not including Israelis. It is not an Israeli ship,” the military added.

“This is another act of Iranian terrorism and constitutes a leap forward in Iran’s aggression against the citizens of the free world, with international consequences regarding the security of the global shipping lanes,” according to the statement.

I wonder if NATO will do anything?

They'd be stupid to. If they start taking deterrent and humanitarian troops out of Europe re Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Black Sea, Poland, etc., Russia may well get the upper hand in Ukraine, especially with help from Turkey.

The various nations' Merchant Marines need to deal with the Barbary pirates.

Realistically, massive call-ups of most countries' military, merchant marines, coast guard are needed to defend against terrorism and migration invasion.
