World leaders show caution on Trump’s broader ‘Board of Peace’ amid fears for UN

Reuters — Governments reacted cautiously on Sunday to US President Donald Trump’s invitation to join his “Board of Peace” initiative aimed at resolving conflicts globally, a plan that diplomats said could harm the work of the United Nations.

The board would be chaired for life by Trump and would start by addressing the Gaza conflict and then be expanded to deal with other conflicts, according to a copy of the letter and draft charter seen by Reuters.

The inclusion of a ‘charter’ in the invitation letter stoked concerns among some European governments that it could undermine the work of the United Nations, which Trump has accused of not supporting his efforts to end conflicts around the world.

Going for global peace role

“It’s going to, in my opinion, start with Gaza and then do conflicts as they arise,” Trump told Reuters in an interview earlier this week.

Trump is no fan of the UN, in this case it was a UN resolution that allowed for the Board of Peace. It would be in his nature to use the UN to end itself, while setting up alternatives that he can control.
Yes, I agree Margery. This is a good article for the sort of thing that is going on in diverse perspectives on what Trump going to Davos means. From what I understand, Trump 45's presentation to the WEF kind of placed him on an unofficial uninvite list forward (as I recall). Although not certain how these kinds of things work themselves out. Later, Trump, as he does with many, complimented Klaus in the media. Which for some is red meat certainty that Trump must be a part of WEF. If anyone has a sounder grasp of Trump 45 as he relates to Davos, please don't hesitate to post. I think it is always helpful to learn.

It can come across as confusing. But from what i understand in many cases Trump would extend opportunities for others to do the right thing by giving them a bit of grace. Which is hard to contrast with Trump's officious side -- where he also graces many with juvenile jabs That looks perhaps inconsistent. But it is likely the carrot or the stick leadership style motif of some sort.

Later on Trump 47 came back to Davos kind of owning the room...lol. I remember the comments I saw regarding how Trump was kind of looked up to as a father figure. Which was different than being perceived as being a B list party invite. I believe there is likely quite a bit of unprocessed thought out there that may tend to see Trump as one of the deep staters in disguise. Admittedly, sometimes i do have doubts myself. But I believe Margery your instincts here sound to me most like Trump. In another thread I termed it how Trump will likely "eclipse" the UN. Which if true, is someone to note. Because that would possibly be the ranks of a man capable of undoing conspiracy theories dating back to the League of Nations. Not that there would be no role of something like that in the future. But that there actually is a persona on tap currently that, for lack of a better word, can possibly trump it. Outside of the AC, we have no real category for that level of social interaction.

By this of course i do not mean Trump is AC. lol. I tried that in 2017 and it was not sustainable in my estimation. But I believe it certainly places Trump in a light to be observed perhaps on many levels. So we are the generation that gets to see the UN and WEF possibly out snubbed. lol. Glorias. Blessings.
