World Court orders Israel to halt assault on Gaza's Rafah

An Israeli government spokesman said on the eve of Friday's decision that "no power on Earth will stop Israel from protecting its citizens and going after Hamas in Gaza".

The court also ordered Israel to open the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza to allow humanitarian aid, and said Israel must provide access to the besieged territory for investigators and report back on its progress within a month.

The top United Nations court said the humanitarian situation in Rafah had "deteriorated further" since its previous court order for Israel to improve it, adding that what was happening there was "disastrous".

It comes after South Africa put in an emergency request to the ICJ for it to order Israel to stop its Rafah assault.

The ICJ president Nawaf Salam said: "The state of Israel shall... immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part."

The court also ordered Israel to open the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza to allow humanitarian aid, and said Israel must provide access to the besieged territory for investigators and report back on its progress within a month.

'Rafah op. doesn't contradict ICJ ruling, we will continue,' Israel says
Israeli officials affirmed that in lieu of the ICJ's ruling, IDF activity in Rafah has not, and would not destroy the Palestinian people, and was in compliance with international law.

The IDF intends to push on with its military operation in Rafah to defeat Hamas, Minister-without-portfolio Benny Gantz told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, after the International Court of Justice’s demand that it halt any campaign in that area to destroy the Palestinian people.

“The State of Israel is committed to continue fighting to return its hostages and promise the security of its citizens - wherever and whenever necessary - including in Rafah,” Gantz said in a statement he issued late Friday after the ICJ ruling.

Um . . . , attention world court!

It was Egypt that refused to reopen Rafah crossing when Israel wanted to reopen for the purpose of humanitarian aid :tap:
Egypt only opened Rafah for commercial traffic, which has to pay Egypt a crossing tax and an inspection tax (and who-knows-what-else tax, plus baksheesh to grease the skids for the funtionary/civil servant to do his job (bribe in Western parlance, but that's the way of things in that part of the world)

Veiled reference to God, probably with reference to Exodus, but maybe also Gog-Magog, etc.

Wonder if he's a closet Christian

Does anybody think that Israel is a burdensome stone to the world at the moment in context of Zechariah 12 ?

Just something i've been pondering today on my walk and just trying to make sure that my discernment of that verse is on the right track ?
I've pondered that quite a bit for quite a while and I do not feel it is......at least at the level to bring the world into a 7 year judgment by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords with the seals/trumpets/bowls. But in ways there are many who have made it that way in the Middle East, Islam, etc. I feel there's much more to come.
