Who walks by faith?
It is a readily accepted belief that religious people need to walk by faith and I would agree with this. It is also a readily accepted belief that non-religious people do not need to nor do they walk by faith, but I would have to disagree with that.
Ok, so what does it mean to walk by faith? It means to proceed and make decision in your life that reflect what you believe and trust in. For a Christian it is easy for anyone to understand what we believe and trust in, Jesus Christ. In any other religion one would say they trust in God.
So then what about non-religious people? I submit to you that they also walk by faith. The only difference is they are trusting in people. They may trust in themselves or any number of others, but they do trust in people. What a bold statement I am making and most every non-religious person would strongly disagree.
Non-religious people would state that they operate using facts not faith. They would say they base their decisions on that which is provable, so it does not require faith. Well here is a flaw in that logic. While I agree that they may believe in what is provable, they don’t bother proving it before proceeding.
While they can prove an airplane can fly, do they prove that the specific airplane they are about to board can fly or even has gas? You may say “of course not, don’t be ridiculous!”. Well if they do not prove it, then I guess they have to trust that someone filled the plane with gas, that the plane can indeed fly and that the pilot knows how to fly a plane.
So actually everyone walks by faith. I’m not saying that everyone has to, just that everyone does.
Let’s just take a typical day. I wake up, but I don’t trust in the clock that someone made, so I must prove to myself that it is time to go to work before I proceed. Oh but wait, I can’t trust in the fact that my job is still there, I must call and prove it before I waste my time. Before I bother getting dressed though, I better prove that my car will start and I am able to drive it.
So by the extreme example above, you can see that while things can be proven, this is not how we proceed in life. So if you don’t prove everything before proceeding, then your only choice is to trust. So again I say it’s not if you trust (because we all do) it’s what you trust in. So if you walk by trust, then you are walking by faith!
Christians believe in past events due to evidence, but future events due to faith.
Non-believers believe in past events due to evidence, but future events due to faith.
Christians trust in God (Jesus Christ) for future events.
Non-believers trust in man for future events.
I really feel sorry for ANYONE trusting in man for the future!
