What is the Book of Life?

Goodboy

Just waiting for the Rapture at this point!
What is the Book of Life?

Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

I think the part of the verse that troubles some is "He that overcometh", but the question then becomes how do we overcome? Well how would you say we overcome sin and the world? I would say it is belief in and acceptance of God's free gift of salvation which is by Jesus Christ. We ourselves are unable to overcome our sin nature and must rely on Jesus who is our overcomer. Because of Jesus we Christians are credited with being an overcomer.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Some may also be troubled with the part that says "I will not blot out his name" assuming that some names are blotted out. However Jesus is saying that no names will be blotted out. It is like me saying to one of my children that because you are my child, I will never kick you out of my house. That does not at all imply that I will kick others of my children out of the house. This verse is really an assurance of salvation which you cannot lose.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

"GotQuestions.org" is a good resource to look up questions about the Bible. Like anything else it is not perfect, but it does have a lot of good answers. Please read the answer it gives below regarding the book of life, which I believe is very good.

I believe, and I will face opposition, that the Book of Life is the book with every child of God that is alive and to be blotted out of the Bookmof Life is to die prematurely.

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. 1 Cor. 11:30

Ronnie,

While I happen to disagree with you, I applaud you for having the courage to express what it is you believe knowing that you may face opposition. I wish more Christians would have that courage. However, I would not say that I oppose what you have stated, as that seems to imply that I am against you. I am not against you, but I just have a different opinion. :)

My reason for posting what I did was to make the point that Revelation 3:5 is not at all saying that after you are saved you can later lose your salvation. Do you believe that after you are saved you can lose your salvation? 🤔

So my question to you is when you say "is to die prematurely" are you speaking of eternal spiritual death or just losing your physical life on earth? As long as you are not speaking of eternal spiritual death, then I have no reason to debate what you believe. 😍

God Bless!

We are in pretty much alignment, it is well document here at CCF that I believe in OSAS. I didn't mean to imply that whoever disagrees with me is in opposition to me personally.

On dying prematurely, no, I wasn't talking about spiritual death, but I beliee that the Lord has to take some saints home early as in 1 Cor. 11:27-30, where it talks about eating the Lord's supper without discerning the Lord's body, he said some sleep (die).

27Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of thatbread, and drink of that cup. 29For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

That is great to hear and what I assumed you meant. 👍

As I said and will say again, there is no need for me to try and make you believe as I do in this case as you are not changing the salvation message at all. That is the main thing I end up debating about as that is by far the most important thing. Also, for all I know maybe your view is correct. If so, I hope the Holy Spirit will reveal that to me as I prefer to know even truth that is not that important.

God Bless my brother!!! 😍
