What has First Baptist said about the fire?
Around 8 p.m., the church posted to its Facebook page, saying that “no one is hurt or injured.” The post asked members to pray for the church.

“We know that God is in control and we know even in difficult times, he’s sovereign over all things,” Lovvorn told The News. “If at all possible, we’re planning on having church on Sunday.”

Intermixed with the awful news of this church building fire is the concern that it was started by human hands. I hope that does not become the reality. We already see many "Turbulent 60's" type events and mindsets and I cannot help but wonder about the source of the fire. Just having those thoughts in today's society shows how serious things are.

Pastor Robert Jeffress says Trump reached out after fire engulfed historic First Baptist Dallas sanctuary

By CP Staff, Sunday, July 21, 2024

"Pastor Robert Jeffress said former President Donald Trump sent him a note after he was informed that the historic sanctuary of First Baptist Dallas was engulfed in flames.
“This historic sanctuary that burned to the ground was the site that presidents visited when they came to Dallas. Woodrow Wilson, Gerald Ford, President George H. W. Bush were all worshipers in that sanctuary,” Jeffress told CBS affiliate KTVT about the 134-year-old church building in downtown Dallas that was reported on fire just after 6 p.m. Central time Friday evening.
Trump, who previously spoke at the church on Dec. 19, 2021, sent Jeffress a note and "offered his help to do anything he could,” Jeffress added."

'A true miracle': Flames torch historic Baptist church sanctuary — but the fire fails to destroy famed pulpit

Amassive, four-alarm fire ripped through the structure of the historic sanctuary at First Baptist Church Dallas last Friday.
But those flames failed to destroy the sanctuary's historic pulpit.

As the church began to sift through the damage this week, it was discovered that the sanctuary's pulpit — which had been used by Baptist preachers including George Truett and W.A. Criswell — survived the fire.

"So indescribably grateful for this miracle," said O.S. Hawkins, the former senior pastor at FBC Dallas.
"In the midst of the total destruction of the church in the fire this 130 year old pulpit of Truett and Criswell and the others of us somehow someway miraculously survived. Thank you Lord," he praised.

Pastor Robert Jeffress, the current senior pastor of the church, described the pulpit's survival as a "true miracle."

"A true miracle — especially if you saw the flames engulfing the place this pulpit was displayed," he said.

First Baptist Dallas unveils ambitious plan to rebuild historic sanctuary after fire

First Baptist Dallas has revealed ambitious designs to reconstruct its historic sanctuary, which was devastated by a fire earlier this year.

First Baptist Dallas' Executive Pastor Jeff Lovvorn outlined the church’s efforts to rebuild during its service on Sunday.

“Our goal is to honor the past while looking forward to what God will do here,” Lovvorn stated. “We are committed to preserving the historic exterior walls of the sanctuary, and we’ve been working diligently to shore them up during this challenging time.”

The proposed designs feature a larger steeple, reminiscent of the original structure, and plans for restored stained glass windows that will enhance the worship space.
“The steeple has been a symbolic cornerstone for our church, reminding us that Jesus Christ is our true cornerstone,” Lovvorn added.

The new sanctuary will also include an elevated floor and a redesigned pulpit, which will be oriented on the north side of the building. This change, said Lovvorn, aims to create a more welcoming atmosphere for worshipers while incorporating modern amenities, including an expanded fellowship space, a grand staircase, and a new multi-purpose venue beneath the sanctuary.

Lovvorn said First Baptist Dallas is planning its largest fundraising effort ever, Mission 18, in order to bring its new vision to life by raising $95 million to support both the new sanctuary and other church ministries.
