Voting In Iowa January 15, 2024

Absentee voting here, the ballot either contains all parties and you vote only for the party of your choice (pick the correct column), or each party has a separate ballot and you vote for your choice and leave the others blank.

In any case, your absentee ballot (plus unused other party ballots) go inside the ballot envelope, which is sealed and put inside the signature envelope, which is completed and sealed. This packet is then put inside the mailing envelope and mailed or taken to the appropriate location. The signature envelope has to be witnessed by another registered Minnesota voter, election official, government official authorized to administer oaths, or notary.

You don't have to tell anyone a party affiliation when registering or voting absentee. You do have to make sure you only vote for one party, or your vote will be voided, though.

I'm unaffiliated and in Wyoming that means I don't get to vote in either main party primaries. I'm fine with that though as both parties are organizations I don't want my name affiliated with. In Alaska I was able to vote in the republican primary.

We switched to unaffiliated also, a few years ago. Don't want to be associated with either party.

Funny story, when I first registered to vote decades ago, I registered as Independent, (much later switched to Republican.) Well years later we all learned that "Independent" was an actual party in MD, so instead of being unaffiliated as we thought, we had actually been part of a whole different party. :whoopdeedoo:

There were 22 Presidential candidates on the ballot here the first year I voted. That means 22 different political parties had gotten enough signatures to have a candidate on the ballot  The State Fair is a great place to get said needed signatures :) One does not have to be a member of the party, only be a registered voter in the State of Minnesota, and one can sign for more than one political party :)

3rd parties have won local and state-wide offices here, and would have won national-level office (U.S. House of Representatives) had there not been "sudden deaths" (both of which a lot of people believe are suspicious)

Minnesota . . . Land of 10,000 Political Parties

I wonder how many others got counted as supporters of that party?

Before they outlawed the frivolous element in Canadian elections we had the Flying Yogic party along with some others, I think I recall a Rhinoceros party too. Election night was fun watching to see how many others voted for the ridiculous stuff. They made it into the debates at times too which elevated them from serious to a little comic relief on the sidelines.

The Western Separatists were dead serious though and I miss them but they split the conservative or Right Wing vote so they finally kissed and made up with the official Conservative party. Ah well.
