Ukraine to stop transit of Russian gas on 1 January – Ukrainian PM

The Ukrainian gas transmission system will be able to transport gas only of non-Russian origin starting at 07:00 on 1 January 2025.

Source: Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at Prime Minister’s Question Time in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

Quote: "The gas transit agreement expires on 1 January 2025; the transit will be physically blocked at 07:00, and the resumption of transit will only be possible if, at the request of the European Commission, we transport non-Russian gas through our system."

Details: Nevertheless, the prime minister explained that under the Association Agreement with the EU and the Energy Charter Treaty, Ukraine is obliged to ensure the transit of Russian oil to Europe at the European Commission's request.

Meaning, he'll have need of the Syrian gas Hub near Damascus?
Maybe even getting some "evil thought?"
I keep thinking back in '23 when Europe began having interest in Israel's natural energy resources that was discovered off the coast and discussions began on a pipeline from Israel to Europe. Europe has been dependent on Russia for natural gas.
Now this with Ukraine blocking the importing of Natural gas from Russia to Europe could begin talks again on that pipeline from Israel to Europe.
Russia may be raising eyebrows.
