UK government 'scouring social media' to arrest people for sharing 'harmful' riot footage regardless of intent

The British government is cracking down on people who share social media posts about the U.K. riots that it judges are "likely to start racial hatred."

The director of public prosecutions of England and Wales, Stephen Parkinson, warned against "publishing or distributing material which is insulting or abusive which is intended to or likely to start racial hatred. So, if you retweet that, then you’re republishing that and then potentially you're committing that offense [incitement to racial hatred]."
He added further, "We do have dedicated police officers who are scouring social media. Their job is to look for this material, and then follow up with identification, arrests, and so forth."

He agreed with the presenter who said, "People might be sharing [content] simply to warn their friends, but it could be considered an offense because they're amplifying this."

"Absolutely, and that's the key message. However, you think you’re acting innocently on social media, whatever platform it is, you’re just sharing something for whatever reason, that could potentially be a criminal offense," Thompson responded.

I saw the interview with one of the British government personnel and he said the arrests would happen even if someone posted either for good intentions or bad, and even if they are in a different country they will be extradited for prosecution.
I don't think they can do that without an extradition agreement between the countries.
Insane how far people are going to silence those they don't agree with.

I'm sharing some thoughts that come to mind as I'm reading this thread (not being dogmatic here and could be missing something ).

This is a tough subject because humankind is in need of checks to the human nature and it's bent towards evil, of which God placed human government to do this very thing early on in Genesis 9:6 with Noah (after the flood and before Israel became a nation with Christ subsequently arriving within, starting the age of grace and introducing the Gospel):

Whoever sheds man’s blood [unlawfully],
By man (judicial government) shall his blood be shed,
For in the image of God
He made man. AMP


And, we are seeing increased in evil as human nature moves along on it's evil bent without God, as 2 Timothy 3 describes:

“Difficult Times Will Come”​

But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear]. For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith]. Avoid such people and keep far away from them. 1-5 AMP

A free society can only exist within the the framework of Godly values as John Adams expressed after prayerfully working with others on the American Constitution. As those Godly values decrease, which restrains, well, then I wonder if there is a need for human government to impose all that more as the secondary check God has put in place. It's interesting in reading about Catherine the Great (considered an enlightened despot, through whom Russian actually flourished under her, drawing many to Russia during her time, to take advantage of a renaissance of sorts), she sought to bring more freedoms to her people but incredibly was restrained...by the people themselves, who were not ready for more a more free society (think Moses and having to lay out legal terms for divorce because of the hardness of Israel's hearts, as Jesus shared in Matthew 19:6-8, which actually helped divorced women so they were not forced into prostitution). So, she was only able to protract certain freedoms along with necessary restraints of various human evil she had to contend with [I think this is where 1 Timothy 2:1-7 may come into play even more....notice that Paul speaks of praying for Kings (and all in positions of high authority - which shows that prayers for people administrating law is effective, so let's pray for the British government)....those who impose a more imperial/kingdom rule of law to keep the order. It's within order, rather than anarchy, that the Gospel can proliferate the best. And that's why Paul says to pray for the king's salvation and also all other people as the Gospel is able to get out better in a peaceful (or without anarchy) sort of environment.

First of all, then, I urge that petitions (specific requests), prayers, intercessions (prayers for others) and thanksgivings be offered on behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in [positions of] high authority, so that we may live a peaceful and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This [kind of praying] is good and acceptable and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who wishes all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge and recognition of the [divine] truth. For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom [a substitutionary sacrifice to atone] for all, the testimony given at the right and proper time. And for this matter I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying [when I say this]—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.] AMP

So we may or may not see some tightening up of things in terms of human government but it might be good to remember that for the sake of souls hearing the Gospel, the Lord may allow this to be permitted up to certain points and places, to restrain, for the sake of the Gospel (not saying that means human governments are right here - after all God describes Gentile human government as beasts, just that the Lord may permit certain tightening up of things).

If this happens, remember the Holy Spirit's biggest goal is to point people to Jesus through the Gospel and keep this the main thing as followers of Jesus Christ.

Let us hope and pray that America (and it's leaders) will hang onto it's Constitutional Republic and embrace the freeing Gospel and/or get that freeing Gospel out. And, lets pray for other leaders as well.

Thanks! It's Lismore Lighthouse, on the small Scottish Island of Lismore (from where comes my screen-name). Sailed past it on a ferry and been ashore on the Island many times. It was a centre of Christianity in the 6th century AD due to a missionary called Moluag and the feeling of peace on the Island is tangible. A good reminder to have when the country seems to be crumpling further into ungodliness everyday now. God Bless

Yes, keep speaking out and supporting those who do. There have been many videos on social media of Christian street preachers being arrested while at the same time Islamic preachers have been allowed to continue, for example I saw a video of an Islamic preacher with a megaphone on Tower Bridge in London giving the call to prayer, with the police standing by to protect them. It's strange times indeed.
