British police launched an urgent operation to stop Iranian terror cells operating within the country, following the arrest of eight suspects working for Iran over the weekend. According to a report in the British Mirror, eight men, including seven Iranians, were arrested in counter-terrorism police raids in two separate investigations, as confirmed over the weekend. Detectives are continuing to question five of the men arrested on suspicion of an alleged plot to target a specific "location," according to police. One police operation arrested five men in various places across England. Four of the detainees, two aged 29, one aged 40, and another aged 46, are Iranian citizens.
According to the Mirror, three additional men, also Iranians, were arrested in London on Saturday under national security laws as part of a separate investigation by the police Counter Terrorism Command. The assessment is that all arrests are linked to an ongoing terror campaign against Iranian regime opponents.
The report also indicated that the target or targets of the Iranian conspiracy are likely individuals – and perhaps organizations – who have spoken out against the Iranian regime. However, other investigations into similar suspected threats, which may reach double-digit numbers, are continuing.
