The Department of Transportation is planning to reclaim the management over Washington, DC’s Union Station.

“Instead of being a point of pride, Washington’s Union Station has fallen into disrepair,” said Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy in a statement.

“By reclaiming station management, we will help make this city safe and beautiful at a fraction of the cost.”

The department is renegotiating a cooperative agreement with the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation — the nonprofit organization that oversees the station — and Amtrak, and it expects “a formal action” confirming the DOT’s renewed control by September.

We used to go to Union Station just to walk around, visit the shops and maybe eat there. Hope they can bring it back.

I lived in D.C. for a few years and for the life of me I can't remember Union Station. I remember the train station at the Pentagon even though I think I always drove there when I had business at the Pentagon.

I don't recall a China town in D.C. either, so maybe I never went to that area.

Nope. I lived at Bolling AFB which is in D.C. proper. I thought I saw a lot of the area but it seems I deprived myself of some potentially worthwhile experiences. I spent time at all the 3 letter agencies. I went to the Capitol at least a few times.
