Trump Shakes Europe with One Mention of Greenland: 'We Are Going to Get It One Way or the Other'

President Donald Trump vowed that the United States would annex Greenland, provoking disdain among European leaders.

Trump said in a Tuesday speech before Congress that acquiring Greenland is necessary for American national security, promising that the island in the North Atlantic would join the country.

“We strongly support your right to determine your own future. And if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America,” Trump told residents of Greenland during the speech, per a report from Politico.

Yet, he added, “We need Greenland for national security and even international security.”

“And we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” he continued. “I think we’re going to get it one way or the other. We’re going to get it.”

He doesn't rule anything out ahead of time which is sensible. Keeps all his options open, uses what he has to to get the job done.

Right now he seems to be enjoying having Denmark, Greenland, all of Europe, Canada, Mexico and China not to mention the entire Arab world on the defensive, responding to his latest ideas.

Viewing from a detached perspective I think that is strategically good although I know it's not pleasant to be on the receiving end.

Here in Canada this is working wonders to jazz up Trudeau's popularity, and tank Poilievre's bid to lead the country! It's brought socialism back from the death bed, and breathed new life into the leftists and the main stream media! Possibly not what will work for Canada in the long run, but it will weaken us to the point of financial capitulation which is what his end goal is -even if it isn't to take us on as the 51st state! Because a weak opponent will take what they are given.

This certainly cuts a lot of wasted time out of negotiations. He cuts to the chase, gets the tantrums out of the way, and when people are ready to deal, he's got a plan in mind.

If I were advising Canada (and I'm not) I would suggest that the best defence is a good offence and Trump likes to play hardball so engage on that level, but be sure of your fallback positions and exploit every weakness you see. Do everything you can to create alternate markets for our goods and avoid debt. Financial weakness will lead to a worse negotiating position. Quit trying to get him to be Mr Nice Guy. He's not. He's in it to win it. The rest of the world needs to do the same, but for the good of OUR countries.

This is ice hockey, home game style complete with fights on the ice, high sticks and sharp blades. A little blood on the ice here and there. There are no Geneva conventions in this brawl so play hard and play to win.

I hope POTUS is not playing a bad poker bluff bet.
From a foreigners point of view, I wish he was but.....

I've been watching his career a while now from my northern vantage point, and I've never seen him miscalculate this sort of thing except during his first term when he was first getting to know the ropes and still trying to be nice to everyone.

This is the guy I figured he is at the very core.

I don't think he's playing a bad hand.

In fact I think he's playing his hand perfectly if you are an American.

It's a disaster for the rest of us, but that is due to the fact we've had idiots in charge for far too long making the stupidest and most short sighted decisions ever! And decades of socialism indoctrination left us soft and stupid.

Or as the old folks used to say THOSE CHICKENS WILL COME HOME TO ROOST SOMEDAY!!! BETTER BE CAREFUL!!!

Maybe some of us in Europe, Greenland, Denmark, Canada etc will rediscover our roots and get back to playing rough, tough and shrewd games too, and then everyone wins.

It's just backyard ice hockey, without the "rules" of "nice". PLAY TO WIN!

Leave a little blood on the ice, preferably not your own!

‘We don’t want to be Americans’: Greenland, Panama reject Trump’s dreams of U.S. expansionism

President Trump doubled down on plans to expand America’s territorial footprint, telling Congress on Tuesday that he intends to take over the Panama Canal and Greenland and will plant the U.S. flag on Mars and beyond.

Mr. Trump announced that the U.S. would reclaim the canal and said, “We’ve already started doing it.”

“I reject in the name of Panama and all Panamanians this new affront to the truth and our dignity as a nation,” Mr. Mulino posted on social media.

Greenland Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede also scoffed at Mr. Trump’s ambitions.

“We don’t want to be Americans,” Mr. Egede said.

Greenland government calls Trump's acquisition talks 'unacceptable'

The government of Greenland called President Donald Trump's comments about taking control of the country "unacceptable" in a statement Friday.

Officials noted the statement was prompted by Trump's meeting with the NATO secretary general Thursday, when he reportedly "reiterated his desire for annexation and control of Greenland."

In response, the leaders of all political parties elected to Inatsisartut, the Parliament of Greenland that includes the Demokraatit, Naleraq, Inuit Ataqatigiit, Siumut and Atassut parties, issued the statement on X.

"We — all the party leaders — cannot accept the repeated statements regarding annexation and control of Greenland," leaders wrote. "We find this behavior toward friends and allies in a defense alliance unacceptable."

They added they "must underscore that Greenland will continue serving ITS people through diplomatic relations, in accordance with international law."
