Trump backs ‘Tito’ Asfura for Honduran president – announces pardon of former leader

TCC

Well-known

An endorsement for a foreign election brought with it a clemency announcement for a former president, allegedly “treated very harshly and unfairly.”

Sunday, the people of Honduras are expected to get out and vote for national and international figures, including their next president. While President Donald Trump threw his support behind National Party nominee Nasry “Tito” Asfura, he also sought to right a perceived wrong against former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández by pardoning his conviction for cocaine importation and weapons charges during President Joe Biden’s administration.

“Tito will be a Great President, and the United States will work closely with him in order to ensure the success, with all of its potential, of Honduras! Additionally, I will be granting a Full and Complete Pardon to Former President Juan Orlando Hernandez who has been, according to many people that I greatly respect, treated very harshly and unfairly,” wrote the chief executive in a Truth Social Post. “This cannot be allowed to happen, especially now, after Tito Asfura wins the Election, when Honduras will be on its way to Great Political and Financial Success.”

. . . . .

I am amazed at how nuanced things are getting to be able to make heads or tails of things...lol. For this article to make sense, it helps to look at Biden Admin downing whatever interference Honduras might have posed in the drug cartel operations. Even some "said, right wing" papers are having a problem making sense of this one. Without His spirit to center us, trying to make sense of the news sometimes is just not possible...lol.

Not everything Trump decides to do would be done by a conservative. He's uniquely Trump.
Amen. A question i ask myself sometimes: "Does Trump actually try to rule as a demonstration of the country perhaps more than any one party?" Certainly likely what is understood to be good for the country. But at times it does look like to me that he aspires to be a president of the people for the people...and a lot of them are liberal leaning even though. That phenomenon if real would be like a man perhaps attempting to match what a president might look like if ruling for the actual collective constitutional good. Which would be a hard pill to swallow if so. Because that is not what politicians typically do that we are aware of. Maybe some still do? Seems so too old school. Maybe Trump tries to?

I think you are correct in this observation. Apart from personal hubris, I believe Donald Trump truly loves America and desires to help the people regain what they once had-- a free and prosperous nation as designed and created by the Founding Fathers under the inspiration of Almighty God. In this regard he is much like Lincoln was. In his day Lincoln was accused of everything from treason to the destruction of democracy, was attacked as a dictator and a demagogue, and was ridiculed as an ignorant egotist and a rank idiot. (Interestingly, in the face of recent events in America, some of Lincoln's fiercest critics claimed Lincoln wanted to be the king of America!)

Yet --as history has shown (although not without disagreement by a few detractors)-- Abraham Lincoln cared deeply for the nation and its people. Yes, he was a flawed man; but despite the many outcries against him in the press resulting in many demonstrations against him, he made what ultimately turned out to be the correct tough --and at times unpopular-- decisions for the United States. Thank God. There would not have been an America for us had it not been for what he did.
