Toyota Prius Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ for Highest MPG for a Coast-to-Coast Drive

September 12, 2024

"PLANO, Texas (Sept. 12, 2024) – The Prius continues to impress and has recently achieved a new high bar for efficiency. Hypermiler, Wayne Gerdes has been awarded the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM title for lowest fuel consumption driving across the U.S. from the west coast to east coast. Earlier this summer, Gerdes drove from Los Angeles City Hall all the way to New York City Hall in a Prius LE and achieved a staggering fuel economy average for the entire trip of 93.158 MPG combined. This smashed the previous record which was in the mid-70s MPG combined.

Over two decades ago, the Prius was introduced to the world as the first production hybrid car and ushered in a new generation of vehicles that combine an electric motor with a high-efficiency engine to dramatically increase fuel economy. And it has lived up to its hype."

We almost bought one before our Camry, but it was quite bare inside and the price was ridiculous. Too bad; I would have enjoyed the mileage. However at our age we need some comforts and conveniences, not just mileage.

Depending on the trim package, Prii have a lot of comfort and conveniences. Mine is middle-of-the road (lowest trim level that I could get a sun/moon roof, which is important with my claustrophobia/cleithrophobia.

If I would have to do it again, I'd get a higher level to get the HEATED fake leather seats, steering wheel, and mirrors :tap:
The winter package wasn't necessary in Missouri, but I did get a block heater, which the dealership had to get from Toyota of Canada
They could only charge the 2 hours for installation per dealer manual even though it took them 8. The next time I went into the dealership, there was a small sign by the parts department: "Ask about block heaters"
