Everybody needs light. To work, to study, to cook, to clean – to undertake many of the activities that are required of us, we need light. In God’s design, light is good. Genesis 1:3-4: “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.”
As human beings who have become accustomed to living through the cycle of night and day, it would be foolish to suggest that we live our entire lives in darkness. Yet, in a spiritual sense, that is what many have decided for themselves.
It would be safe to say that the majority of people throughout the world are living in spiritual blindness. On an intellectual level, mankind recognises a degree of this and, as such, seeks to rectify this through the pursuit of knowledge. However, spiritual blindness is not a superficial condition which may be remedied by reading celebrated books, attending colleges, studying philosophy, or learning from revered religious leaders.
Spiritual blindness is a profound and complete blindness to the truth, usually as the result of an individual who chooses to suppress the truth in unrighteousness (Romans 1:18). In addition to that, we have a spiritual enemy who not only works to keep men in darkness, but he puts forward a counterfeit light to deceive those who are not content to remain in darkness.
