The Day of the Lord

Andiamo

Hanging on to the Throne
Comments/question for those who have read Footsteps of the Messiah. Arnold states on page 173 that the “Day of the Lord” refers to the tribulation in the HEBREW scriptures “always and without exception.” I came to the conclusion that there must be a few exceptions in the New Testament, as I considered Acts 2:20 for example (although there it is the “great and notable” day of the Lord) which refers to His second coming.
On page 174 he lists New Testament designations (phrases) which refer to the tribulation period, which is helpful.

Yet on page 128 when discussing the rise of the antichrist and referring to 2 Thess 2:1-3, he states “the day of the Lord—an expression which always refers to the tribulation. “ Not using the worrd “always” in reference to the Hebrew Scriptures only.

I understand that “the day of the Lord” means the Tribulation in 2 Thess 2 and don’t want this to be a discussion about that chapter. My point is that I’m just a little confused now as to if there are any exceptions in the New Testament, (which I’m sure there are,) what those exceptions would be and how to identify them. (Fairly certain it would add in another significant word which changes the meaning, as in Acts 2:20 which I referenced above.). ?

Lee Brainard gives a clear explanation in this video on The Day of The Lord from his website Sooth keep, and he breaks it down for clear understanding.
I Iike that Lee doesn't just give a straight answer but with his answer he uses scripture to explain the reason for his answer.

The Day of the Lord

Description:

Demonstrates from scripture that the technical arrival of the day of the Lord is the second coming, that the first sign of the approaching day of the Lord is the morning star (the rapture), and that the seventieth week is the dawning of the day upon the world.

Thanks Rose. I haven’t watched that yet but I definitely will. The video description is interesting but I can see this kind of opens things up to more questions about whether a certain verse means the rapture or the tribulation. Leaving it not as sewn up as I thought it would be. Hoping his explanation clarifies this.

I do see how that day of the Lord can be one long day that begins at the rapture and ends at the second coming. Because I’ve always thought that His return is actually one event in two phases.

But really my specific issue is the phrase “the day of the Lord” and similar. And how to identify what it pertains to exactly.

Lee sums it up saying that The Day of The Lord begins with The Morning Star, then comes the Dawning of The Day of The Lord and proceeds towards the actual Day Of The Lord at The Second Coming of Christ.
He does a great job explaining it.
I hope you watch the video 😊

Great answers above, and thought I would add this description:

Amos 5:

16 Therefore the Lord God of hosts, the Lord, says this:

“There shall be wailing in all streets,
And they shall say in all the highways,
‘Alas! Alas!’
They shall call the farmer to mourning,
And skillful lamenters to wailing.
17 In all vineyards there shall be wailing,
For I will pass through you,”
Says the Lord.
18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord!
For what good is the day of the Lord to you?
It will be darkness, and not light.
19 It will be as though a man fled from a lion,
And a bear met him!
Or as though he went into the house,
Leaned his hand on the wall,
And a serpent bit him!
20 Is not the day of the Lord darkness, and not light?
Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?
