Shock and Awe vs. relationship building evangelism

I was aggressively approached today by a group that made me very uncomfortable. Based on the outfits and the amount of makeup worn I believe it was some kind of social media ploy.

Thinking about it I realized I am more of a relationship builder "What's your secret?". Person.

I am curious to get opinions.

Relationship building.

I don't like to play games with people or create theatrical setups. I'm always suspicious of people's motives who start out that way, grabbing attention and trying too hard.

People I've known for years and trust, -them I listen to.

People who come up to me with a script or an agenda feel like con artists or cult members to me, and about as trustworthy.

I was profoundly uncomfortable. Even more so than when the youngish guy with an inverted pentagram on his neck kept coming by work to flirt with me. He stopped when I started wearing my cross.

I felt there was probably some sort of Livestream going so I was very terse.

That honest curiosity can open doors. It’s important to remain curious and it seems that when I get a little pressure from my church to use a technique, I flub up. I can’t do both.

Relationship building is my target, but I'm VERY big on being treated with respect and the truth in order to reciprocate. Sometimes others truth is wrong but they are not aware but other times they are aware that they are lying/dishonest. I can deal with being around and interacting with someone that is wrong but not aware but not intentional deception. The line draws on those 2 things for sure.
