Report: Toronto Film Festival Cancels October 7 Doc, Supposedly over Hamas Copyright to Murder Footage

Hol

Well-known
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has canceled a documentary about the October 7, 2023, terror attack, ostensibly because of concerns that Hamas might have copyright claims to footage it of its murders.

Hamas broadcast footage of its own atrocities while they took place, a unique form of psychological warfare designed to inflict trauma on Israelis and to encourage its supporters among Palestinians in Gaza and abroad.

There is no conceivable way that it could advance legal claims to copyright in a western court, especially as its footage has become part of the public record, but the issue provided TIFF a pretext to cancel an Israeli film.

Update: The Times of Israel reported:

Following the Toronto International Film Festival’s decision to cancel the screening of a documentary about the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led massacre, the subject of the film calls the decision “absurd and delusional.”

“The Toronto Film Festival has succumbed to pressure and threats, and has chosen to silence and erase October 7,” says retired IDF Major General Noam Tibon. “My message to the festival management: The truth cannot be erased. The atrocities committed by Hamas cannot be erased or denied.”

That's a cop out. When information is posted to the internet it becomes available to all. My guess is some woke people know it would cause any moral person to become sick, and oppose any future immigration.
Hello! Perhaps TIFF wobbled and temporarily decided not to show the film as it contradicts the mainstream narrative. The current conflict in Gaza began when Hamas launched a brutal terror attack against Israel. Whatever happens is on Hamas. The narrative now seems to be anti-Israel, so it's good to remind people of how the conflict started. God Bless :)

Sa'ar praises Toronto Film Festival for reversing decision on 10.7 film

Aug 15, 2025

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar expressed his satisfaction following the Toronto International Film Festival's (TIFF) decision to reverse its earlier stance and allow the screening of The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue, a documentary about the horrific October 7th massacre. Sa'ar emphasized that this move marks a victory for justice, particularly in the face of the festival’s initial decision to block the film's screening.

Sa'ar criticized TIFF’s original decision, labeling it as a "miserable" one, and framed the reversal as a significant step in confronting those who deny the massacre and perpetuate anti-Semitic narratives aimed at erasing the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists. He commended the collaborative efforts of the Israeli Embassy in Ottawa, the Consulate in Toronto, and the Canadian Jewish community for their tireless work in ensuring the film’s screening.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Israel's commitment to upholding the truth, stating, "We will continue to work for the truth and to highlight the horrors of the October 7th massacre. We will not forget. We will not allow it to be forgotten."
