Pro-Israel demonstrator in Mass charged after firing at attacker in apparent self-defense shooting

A pro-Israel demonstrator in Massachusetts has been charged after prosecutors say he shot a man sporting a Palestinian flag pin who ran across the street through traffic and tackled the defendant Thursday during a heated dispute about the war in Gaza in which the man accused protesters of "defending genocide" and calling them "sick."

Scott Hayes, 47, of Framingham, has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as violation of a constitutional right causing injury, after he shot his attacker in the stomach as they tussled on the ground in Newton at around 6:40 p.m., Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said at a late night press briefing.

Hayes fired his gun after the man made a beeline from across the street, tackled Hayes and knocked him to the ground before grabbing him around the neck on a sidewalk, video shows.

Ryan said that Hayes legally owns the firearm.
Hayes is expected to be arraigned Friday at Newton District Court.

This sort of thing has been going on for some time particularly since this regime took office.
Over the past few years I've read news articles about people being charged for using a legal handgun when someone breaks into their home and the homeowner uses the gun in self defense. Also many business owners who have had to use a gun when being robbed at the place of business and when the business owner has used their gun to protect themselves and their business, it's been the owner of the business who is arrested.

This is why it's so important to have proper insurance. The USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association) is the most notable one, but I and my instructors prefer US Law Shield. It provides more complete coverage for the same rates. Google either one and you'll learn how to protect yourself AFTER a shooting.

Dershowitz: ‘Serious questions’ about fairness of Newton’s response to shooting at pro-Israel rally

The Boston-area city faces criticism for arresting the alleged shooter right away, but not the man who appeared to attack him before getting shot.

From the article:

Alan Dershowitz, a professor emeritus at Harvard Law School, told JNS that there is no question that the man who crossed the street and tackled the pro-Israel rallier committed a crime.

“I think the first thing that’s clear is that the person who assaulted the veteran should be arrested as well,” Dershowitz said. “The fact that he hasn’t been arrested raises some serious questions.”

The legal scholar told JNS that the question whether the shooter acted in self-defense “will be determined based on all the evidence.”

“The shooting raises questions that require a deep investigation as to precisely when the shot was fired, what the circumstances were, what the feelings and beliefs of the person who shot were,” he said. “That requires an extensive investigation.”
Dershowitz told JNS that he is concerned that the alleged shooter was charged before the investigation was complete.

“It seemed to me that the first person to be arrested should have been the person who did the initial assault, because there’s no doubt about that. That’s on videotape. You can see it,” he said. “So the fact that the person was not arrested, charges were not filed against the person making the original charges, raises serious questions about the fairness of the entire process.”

Outrageous! District Attorney Announces Iraq War Veteran Who Shot Pro-Hamas Agitator in Self-Defense will be Charged with Two ‘Crimes’ – Faces Several Years in Prison (VIDEO)

....this clear-cut case in self-defense could cost Hayes his freedom in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced during a press conference later Thursday night that she is charging Hayes with two crimes: assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and violation of a constitutional right causing injury.

Hayes faces over a decade in prison for merely fighting back. Talk about a travesty of justice.

Running up and tackling him to the ground like that could have easily resulted in the shooter dying of a head injury or living and being paralyzed for life. I can’t believe the guy who was shot hasn’t been charged. Hopefully people won’t let up on demanding this and he does eventually get charged.

Is there a go fund me site yet for the shooter? I didn't see one yet. I love that a super large amount of people can contribute a very small amount of money and it totals a huge amount that can help this guy w/ his legal bills. Basically he is fighting for all of us now. We have to stand up for our rights to defend ourselves. What a nightmare.
