Pete Hegseth Lays Out the Trump Administration's Plan to End War in Ukraine

The defense secretary laid out the Trump administration’s plan to bring about an end to the war, which has claimed upwards of 300,000 lives since it began.

Hegseth asserted that each party “must start by recognizing that returning to Ukraine’s pre-2014 borders is an unrealistic objective” and that “chasing this illusionary goal will only prolong the war and cause more suffering.”

The defense secretary further stated that the U.S. “does not believe that NATO membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement.”

Hegseth affirmed that “there will not be US troops deployed to Ukraine,” a promise Trump made on the campaign trail.

I like it. No US troops. Other western nations (European) provide security guarantees but not as a NATO deployment. No NATO membership in the future for Ukaine as a result of the agreement.

Agree, very reasonable plan.

This could get real interesting, depending upon what Hamas thinks they can get away with. I imagine Israel has nothing but green lights from the US to do whatever it deems necessary to end the threat.

Trump and Putin may already be in agreement. Now if Ukraine doesn't accept the terms they may find they don't have enough munitions to prosecute the war much longer.

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Source” that President Donald Trump “has effectively surrendered” to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The positions that Defense Secretary Hegseth announced in Brussels – which I’m sure I’d be stunned if Trump didn’t convey them directly to Putin in their phone call – constitute terms of a settlement that could’ve been written in the Kremlin. Maybe they were written in the Kremlin and got out in propaganda channels. But it’s a complete reversal of the U.S. And NATO position on a number of issues. For example, up until today, the official American position was that Ukraine should be returned to full sovereignty and territorial integrity, that’s gone. The question of nato membership as far back as 2008 had been that ultimately Ukraine would become a NATO member, that doesn’t look like that’s around anymore either. Putin has scored a whole series of victories today.”
