North Koreans deployed alongside Russian troops in Ukraine, sources say

North Korean military engineers have been deployed to help Russia target Ukraine with ballistic missiles, and fighters operating in occupied areas of the country have already been killed, senior officials in Kyiv and Seoul said.

There are dozens of North Koreans behind Russian lines, in teams that “support launcher systems for KN-23 missiles”, a source in Ukraine told the Guardian.

Kim Jong-un, the North Korean leader, last year travelled to Russia for a summit with Vladimir Putin where the two men bolstered their deepening ties with a secret arms deal.

Ukraine’s Zelensky seeks strong reaction to North Korean involvement in war
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday he was seeking a strong reaction from countries who have acknowledged that North Korea is becoming more involved in Russia’s more than 2½-year-old war against Ukraine.

Speaking in his nightly video address, Zelensky said there was ample satellite and video evidence that North Korea was sending not only equipment to Russia, but also soldiers to be prepared for deployment.

“I am grateful to those leaders and representatives of states who do not close their eyes and speak frankly about this cooperation for the sake of a larger war,” he said. “We expect a normal, honest, strong reaction from our partners on this.”

Zelensky said greater North Korean involvement could only be harmful to everyone.

North Korean Troops Deserting Ukraine Frontline Days After Arrival:
Some 18 North Korean soldiers are believed to have deserted the Russian frontline, with Kremlin fighters reportedly searching for them.

The troops were deployed in Russia's Kursk and Bryansk oblasts, about four miles from the border with Ukraine, when they deserted, the public broadcasting company of Ukraine, Suspilne, reported.

Intelligence officials cited by the broadcaster said the Russian military is searching for the North Korean soldiers, while commanders are trying to conceal the desertion from their higher-ups.

It comes after reports that Moscow was planning to assemble a battalion of troops sent over by Kim Jong Un to help push Ukraine's forces out of Kursk.

Rep. Mike Turner Urges ‘Direct Military Action’ if North Korean Troops Set Foot in Ukraine

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) is urging “direct military action” if North Korean troops set foot on Ukrainian soil to support Russia’s invasion.

His statement comes on the heels of reports that thousands of North Korean soldiers have arrived in Russia, a move Turner calls “a dangerous and extreme escalation” in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

On Monday, Turner chastised the administration for its lack of transparency, stating that Congress has been kept in the dark about North Korea’s military involvement in Russia.

In a letter sent to President Joe Biden, Turner expressed grave concern over the potential threat posed by North Korean forces aligning with Russia in its ongoing assault on Ukraine.

Interesting. PENTAGON CONFIRMS THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS ON ANY U.S. WEAPONS TO BE USED AGAINST NORTH KOREAN 🇰🇵 TROOPS IN UKRAINE.

The Pentagon stated there are “no new restrictions” on using U.S. weapons against North Korean forces if they engage in the Ukraine war.

An estimated 10,000 North Korean troops are in eastern Russia for training, with some nearing Ukraine’s border in Kursk.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh: "A portion of those North Korean soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine, and we are increasingly concerned that Russia intends to use these soldiers in combat or to support combat operations against Ukrainian forces in Russia's Kursk Oblast near the border with Ukraine.”

NATO has confirmed the North Korean military presence in Kursk.

No new limits on Ukraine's use of US weapons if N.Korea enters fight, Pentagon says
WASHINGTON, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Ukraine would not see any new restrictions on the use of U.S. weapons against North Korean forces should they enter the fight against Ukrainian forces, the Pentagon said on Monday, as it estimated 10,000 North Korean troops had been deployed to eastern Russia for training.

"A portion of those soldiers have already moved closer to Ukraine, and we are increasingly concerned that Russia intends to use these soldiers in combat or to support combat operations against Ukrainian forces in Russia's Kursk Oblast near the border with Ukraine," said Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said earlier on Monday that military units from North Korea have been deployed to Russia's Kursk region, which Ukrainian forces grabbed in a surprise summer offensive.
Singh declined to confirm North Korean forces were present in Kursk.
"It is likely that they are moving in that direction towards Kursk. But I don't have more details just yet," Singh said.

That's a foolish position. There are a lot of foreigners fighting for Ukraine.

10,000 North Koreans equals 10 days of casualties if it's true that Russia is loosing approx 1000 soldiers each day.

Proxy War? South Korea to Prepare ‘Countermeasures’ Against North Korea in Ukraine
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said Tuesday that his government is preparing “countermeasures” in response to evidence of a growing North Korean presence in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, demanding of his Cabinet a “heightened sense of vigilance.”

He made the comments after holding a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, on Tuesday in which the Ukrainian leader said the two agreed to “intensify contacts at all levels” and cooperate to limit North Korean influence in the war.

Yoon, a conservative, has spent much of the year warning the European Union and NATO of the blossoming diplomatic relationship between communist North Korea and Russia, suggesting this summer that North Korea posed a global threat, not just a regional one in east Asia.

“Military co-operation between Russia and North Korea poses a distinct threat and grave challenge to the peace and security on the Korean peninsula and in Europe,” Yoon told Reuters in July. “North Korea is clearly a menace to the international society. I hope that Russia will sensibly decide which side – the South or the North – is more important and necessary for its own interests.”

Uh, oh.

I smell a rat.

NK also cooperates militarily with China.

China (and/or NK) may well take advantage if it thinks South Korea has weakened its defenses sufficiently.
Especially after The Rapture, when the US military would likely be depleted enough to be unable to fulfill military treaty obligations.

US and other countries still have troops there.

Sounds like both Ukraine and Russia are pulling in outside help in manpower.

The advantage to North Korea is Russia gets to feed their starving troops, and give battle experience to the survivors, meaning the ones that don't die right away or stay in the battle lines instead of defecting to the Ukraine for food and a chance at defecting to the west.

Russia needs more manpower as their conscripts and jailbirds are running low.

South Korea is listening to Zelensky who seems to be very persuasive, and knows which buttons to push to activate South Korean fears.

The Ukraine desperately needs more manpower.

Not a good situation.
