Newsom Signs $50 Million to Fight Trump — After Asking for Federal Aid for Fires

Both bills were passed after a special legislative session called by Newsom after the election to prepare California to lead the opposition to the second Trump administration. Newsom and the Democrat-controlled legislature reached a deal to fund the anti-Trump effort even as the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire were still smoldering in Los Angeles.

One bill, SBX1-1, provides for “additional funding to be made available to the Department of Justice for litigation challenges of federal policy. The other, SBX1-2, provides funding for “legal services to vulnerable persons at risk of detention, deportation, [or] eviction” — in other words, to illegal aliens. Both were introduced by State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco).

The bills were passed earlier this week. Newsom waited until his visit in Washington was over, and until a Friday afternoon — when many people have left work and are less likely to notice the news — to sign the spending into law.

If California has money with which to "fight" the current administration, then I would suggest they don't need any funds from the Federal govmint, and any funds that were given are likely to be wasted.

If Californians want the help they need, they might have to successfully recall the governor as well as many in their state legislature. It's time for Californians to fight as if their futures depended up it, because it does.

Agree 💯
I think DOGE should audit Newsom for the billions he's already received by the federal government for a bullet train system that never got done after like six years now and Biden gave millions to him for housing projects for the homeless and there's no account for where the money went and the homeless situation only worsened.
But he could buy a tax payer paid for $90 million dollar home for him and his family.
He's a thief and deserves nothing. We as citizens of this state get the bad effects of his bad management of California's needs

If the funds haven't been sent, don't send them.
If they have, take them back.
If they've been spent or removed from the account, take them back, anyway. The Governor can put it back from that $50M,plus whatever other $$$$$$$ has disappeared.

Electronic money is like that. In a bank account or budget one moment, taken away the next.
