Newsom asks for $3.4 billion loan to provide healthcare for residents and illegal immigrants

Original Post by
The Washington Examiner

Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D-CA) Department of Finance notified lawmakers on Wednesday that it needs another $3.4 billion to cover the costs associated with the state's Medicaid program, which includes providing health insurance to illegal immigrants.

The one-page letter, which came after Newsom told lawmakers they underestimated the costs, did not specify why Medi-Cal needs the money.

The $3.4 billion loan is the maximum the state can borrow and is only expected to last until the end of the month, Department of Finance spokesman H.D. Palmer said.

The state initially earmarked $3 billion per year for the cause, but that estimation fell well below reality. The current budget proposal estimates that it will cost the state $8.4 billion to cover undocumented immigrants in 2024-2025 and $7.4 billion in 2025-2026.

"This is a disturbing pattern — Newsom creates a budget that's laughably detached from reality, spends way more than he has, then puts his hand out for more when the bill comes due," California State Assembly Leader James Gallagher, a Republican, told the Washington Examiner. "It's how we went from a $100 billion surplus to a massive deficit in barely a year. The cost of these benefits to illegal immigrants is $9.5 billion — that is badly needed money that could go toward helping our citizens."

Gov. Newsom increases request for Medi-Cal to $6.4B while spending $9.5B on noncitizens

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration has requested a $2.8 billion bailout for taxpayer-funded Medi-Cal, on top of an additional $3.4 billion for the program requested last week.

With $9.5 billion spent by Medi-Cal on illegal immigrant health care this year, Newsom told a press gaggle that this benefits expansion was at least partially to blame. He also shared his support for universal taxpayer-funded health care.

“It’s partial,” said Newsom, speaking to the relationship between expanding taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants and the $6.4 billion bailout request. “I believe in universal healthcare … it’s just a core principle.”

With an estimated 1.9 million illegal immigrants and $9.5 billion spent by Medi-Cal on their healthcare, the state is spending approximately $5,000 per illegal immigrant on healthcare this year.

Newsom Signals He Won’t Cut Healthcare For Illegal Migrants Despite Soaring Costs

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he won’t end taxpayer-backed healthcare for illegal migrants, despite being billions short on state healthcare funds.

The governor Monday requested state lawmakers provide a $2.8 billion loan to help cover expenses for Medi-Cal, California’s version of the federal Medicaid program, according to CalMatters. This request was in addition to the $3.4 billion loan the Newsom administration borrowed from the state earlier in March in order to make payments for Medi-Cal through the end of the month — totaling $6.2 billion in spending above what the state budget originally projected.

“Not on my docket,” the governor said to reporters Tuesday when asked if he would cut Medi-Cal for those living unlawfully in the country, according to KCRA 3.

Despite his refusal to consider cutting state-funded healthcare benefits to illegal migrants, Newsom acknowledged the inclusion of them into the program has contributed to ballooning costs.

No funding should go to Newsom if he's doubling down on continuing to give illegal immigrants free healthcare on tax payer money. No more

The deeds of Newsom are his own to answer for (humanly and eternally) but giving him the office/platform to be this corrupt and tyrannical and wrong and defiant is an account of MANY citizens of the state. And now this domestic enemy has his sights set on federal positions to deepen his grip on destroying the country.
