New York will set aside money to help local news outlets hire and retain employees

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is offering up to $90 million in tax credits for news outlets to hire and retain journalists in an effort to help keep the shrinking local news industry afloat.

The U.S. newspaper industry has been in a long decline, driven by factors including a loss in advertising revenue as outlets have moved from primarily print to mostly digital. That prompted state lawmakers to help in a measure passed in the state budget.

New York’s three-year program allows some news organizations to tap into refundable tax credits each year, with a single outlet able to receive tax credits of up to $320,000 annually.

There's a million ways to misuse public monies. I'd say this is one of them.

That's a reason; but it's not THE reason. The real reason is the abandonment of journalistic principles in favor of partisan perspectives. When newspapers (and, for that matter, television and radio) began looking at news as a profit center rather than a public service, they stopped funding newsrooms and good newsroom staff. Instead they took the quick and easy route, turning to sensationalism, and telling people what they wanted people to know, rather than what the people needed to know in order to make sound decisions for their families, their finances, their futures and their freedoms. When newspapers stopped giving the news and began giving propaganda --hyperbole, fabrication, and hype-- people stopped reading. Including me (and I worked in journalism for over a quarter of a century.) Why would I pay someone to feed me lies?

BINGO!!! As a consumer I refuse to pay good money just to read/watch/listen to govt propaganda and leftist indoctrination.

It just proves once again that there is an infestation AND they take care of their own. You would think outside or tax money would either eventually run out or a major backlash would occur to prevent such spending, but not in our society today. The money just keeps on being funneled toward the infestation.
