Minnesota Republicans Introduce Bill Classifying ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ a Mental Illness

Senate Republicans in Minnesota are set to introduce a bill that classifies "Trump Derangement Syndrome," commonly referred to as TDS, as a mental illness.

For those not privy to the latest medical journals, TDS is a condition where otherwise normal humans turn into frothing, wild-eyed lunatics at the mere mention of a particular golden-haired president.

Symptoms include spontaneous outbursts of "Orange Man Bad!", an uncontrollable urge to blame him for everything (including, but not limited to, their burnt toast), and a knack for seeing Hitler in everything he says.

The bill, already logged into the legislature website, will be formally introduced and read in the chamber on Monday. It has five Republican authors added to it.

:furious:  :apost: :ban:

Instead of wasting time, money, manpower, and paperwork on stupid stuff, they should be doing something to fix the seriously broken mental health system here so people can actually get help 😭 :tap:

Say, maybe, my sibling :tap:

It's fun, but the problem is you are one election away from a rebound of people who didn't appreciate the humour.

I don't like using the Psychiatric manuals and their diagnostic criteria as political weapons.

Makes it all the harder when the shoe is on the other foot in future, to argue that it's fundamentally wrong to label your political opponent as a genuine psychiatric disorder.

It would be better if the current "winners" in this round of elections didn't rub their opponents noses in it, even tho very tempting. I'd like to think conservatives are better than that, but I'm probably wrong.

Despots of every political stripe are prone to weaponizing medicine whether it's locking someone in an asylum or conducting medical experiments on them eg China.

They've already weaponized DSM against Christians. To be fair, the same diagnostic criteria could be used against any religious belief(s).

"Key Features That Define the Psychotic Disorders
Delusions
Delusions are fixed beliefs that are not amenable to change in light of conflicting evidence.
Their content may include a variety of themes (e.g., persecutory, referential, somatic, religious,
grandiose). Persecutory delusions (i.e., belief that one is going to be harmed, harassed,
and so forth by an individual, organization, or other group) are most common."

"delusion A false belief based on incorrect inference about external reality that is firmly
held despite what almost everyone else believes and despite what constitutes incontrovertible
and obvious proof or evidence to the contrary. The belief is not ordinarily accepted
by other members of the person’s culture or subculture (i.e., it is not an article of
religious faith). When a false belief involves a value judgment, it is regarded as a delusion
only when the judgment is so extreme as to defy credibility. Delusional conviction can
sometimes be inferred from an overvalued idea (in which case the individual has an unreasonable
belief or idea but does not hold it as firmly as is the case with a delusion)"

(APA, pp. 87 and 819)

"Delusions" is a criterium, which can be used to establish or contribute to diagnosis of a mental illness/condition/disorder, including brief psychotic disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, depression, etc. In some places, detention for evaluation, and potentially, involuntary commitment and forcible administration of medication and/or other treatment is allowed upon diagnosis of certain mental illnesses/conditions/disorders.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, when sharia is imposed:

"Possessionform
dissociative identity disorder can be distinguished from culturally accepted possession
states in that the former is involuntary, distressing, uncontrollable, and often recurrent
or persistent; involves conflict between the individual and his or her surrounding
family, social, or work milieu; and is manifested at times and in places that violate the
norms of the culture or religion."

(APA, p. 295).

I'm ready to start diagnosing TDS! JK, but it is a funny thought. I am super curious on what the long-term ramifications of this Trump presidency will be on this nation.
