McConnell Stepping Down As Senate GOP Leader

The longest serving Senate leader in history, Mitch McConnell, is set to step down from his position in November.

McConnell (R-Ky.), announced the news on Wednesday afternoon in the well of the Senate. A place he first became acquainted to in 1985.

“One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter,” he said in prepared remarks obtained by The Associated Press. “So I stand before you today … to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate.”
“As I have been thinking about when I would deliver some news to the Senate, I always imagined a moment when I had total clarity and peace about the sunset of my work,” McConnell said in his prepared remarks. “A moment when I am certain I have helped preserve the ideals I so strongly believe. It arrived today.”

“I turned 82 last week. The end of my contributions are closer than I’d prefer," he continued. "I am no longer the young man sitting in the back, hoping colleagues would remember my name. It is time for the next generation of leadership."

While I'm thrilled to see him go, I'm left wondering who will replace him? That worries me. The GOP has a long and illustrious history of doing the wrong thing at the wrong time and shooting themselves in the foot. I just don't feel confident that we'll get a someone with common sense and a backbone considering most of them are spineless jellyfish.

Since the majority do not have America's interests at heart, but their own interests along with their lust for power, the likelihood of getting someone who will do right by the country is slim. God works in mysterious ways... so there's always a chance we get someone good.

"McConnell said he plans to serve out his Senate term, which ends in January 2027, “albeit from a different seat in the chamber.”

He spoke at times haltingly, his emotions evident, as he looked back on his career. Dozens of members of his staff lined up behind him on the back wall of the chamber, some wiping away tears, as family and friends looked down from the gallery above. Senators from both parties — most of them taken by surprise by the announcement — trickled into the chamber and exchanged hugs and handshakes.

""I turned 82 last week. The end of my contributions are closer than I prefer," McConnell said on the Senate floor, his voice breaking with emotion. "Father Time remains undefeated. I'm no longer the young man sitting in the back hoping colleagues remember my name. It's time for the next generation of leadership."
His tenure of nearly 17 years as a Senate party leader is the longest on record.
"

Who might replace him? Who might replace Mitch McConnell as the top Senate Republican?
"There are three major contenders largely expected to vie for the top spot: the "three Johns," as some have called them, are Sens. John Thune, John Barrasso and John Cornyn."

I wonder about this election in November- it's shaping up to be an interesting one, and McConnell is stepping down.

I  we get the right person in office in November, if not our country is in big trouble. If it doesn't turn around, I believe we are so close to going :rapture: home. Also, things have to get really bad for prophecy to be fulfilled, and the antichrist will step on the scene along with his false prophet.

Along with term limits, Congress needs to pass a law prohibiting any who leave any government service from joining any corporation or academic field for a few years. No lobbying, no involvement in govt. contracts, and the reason they need to stay away from universities is because most provide cover for laundering money & CIA ops.

The last thing we need is for McConnell to find a cushy job with the Cheney family Halliburton war company, or Burisma, or get on Facebook's censorship board, or consult for Turkey...
