Macron 'preparing for war' with Russia as French troops plot major exercise

France's military is set for a landmark exercise in Eastern Europe next year, as the French President continues to ready his forces for a showdown with Russia.

Emmanuel Macron has been increasingly hawkish in recent years, calling on European allies, notably Germany, to ramp up defence spending and support for President Zelensky.

Now his troops are to conduct a major military exercise in Romania, a country that neighbours Ukraine - as Russia continues to wage war.

Oh IS he? Then once he’s thoroughly riled up Russia he will retreat to safety behind his allies and involve them to protect France! How very French of him- that’s the pattern of the past 2 world wars. After the Brits, the Americans and assorted others like Canada, Australia and New Zealand have handed back France to the French they’ll stab their allies in the back at every opportunity.

I haven’t forgotten about the way the president of France at the time Charles De Gaulle said to Quebec separatists “vive le Quebec libre” in 1967 encouraging a rather bloody separatist movement.

This came despite his history of leading France against the Nazis and relying on the British Canadians, Americans, and other other allies to free France. Domestically the rate of participation in the Canadian armed forces was predominantly the English-speaking while the French in Quebec were actively encouraging their people to stay home and stay out of the conflict.

Thankfully there were a number who enlisted anyway but not to the degree that the rest of Canada participated.

Both my grandfathers spoke fluent French, and the one living in Ontario, who often visited in Quebec during that period of time could attest to that.

Macron is reminding me of all of that

Same guy who wants to cut off arms supply to Israel to force an unjust, untenable and unilateral "peace". I guess France has more Muslims than it does Russians. But hey, he's a leftist so it doesn't have to make sense.

I read the article. The area Macron wants to conduct his exercises in is ROMANIA!!!

Of all places. Only little Moldova stands between Ukraine and Romania. Russia has been quite active in Moldova thru the whole conflict. Moldova is NOT a NATO partner although Romania IS.

And at the coast of the Black Sea both Romania and Ukraine have a common border. Moldova is inland.

He might as well go right up to the borders of Russia and poke the bear personally, as this is exactly the provocation that Russia has been complaining about.

If he wants to conduct military exercises, why not in France? or over in Germany? Or borrow Spain for goodness sake? Just not on the border of Ukraine.
