Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the last shah of Iran, thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his “support” of Iranian protesters on Friday.
“President Trump, thank you for your strong leadership and support of my compatriots. This warning you have issued to the criminal leaders of the Islamic Republic gives my people greater strength and hope—hope that, at last, a President of the United States is standing firmly by their side,” Pahlavi said on X.
Protesters have also chanted anti-government slogans, the Associated Press reported. At least seven people have been killed so far in the violence surrounding the demonstrations.
Ali Larijani, a former parliament speaker who serves as the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said on X that U.S. “interference” in the protests “would mean destabilizing the entire region and destroying America’s interests.”
