A few years ago we received a call in the middle of the night from the mother of a young teenage girl to whom Andrea had been ministering for a couple of years. The girl was in hospital, and the doctors and mother feared that night she was on her death bed and would likely not make it through till morning. She asked us to pray for her daughter to live. But she also said her daughter knew that I write poems and asked if I could write one for her as she lay in her hospital bed.
I usually do not write to order; I can only write as the Holy Spirit moves upon me. But that night I sat down and the Spirit moved me to put on paper the words that flowed into my mind. They are written from the perspective of the girl in her hospital bed.
Thankfully the girl lived. In fact—all glory to God! and to the amazement of her doctors—by morning she was not dead ... but instead raised up out of her sickbed perfectly well! So well, that she was discharged that very day!!! Hallelujah!!! Nobody can tell me that God does not hear the cries of His children.
Anyway, I just found a copy of the poem in an old computer file and Andrea asked me to post it here as she believes the words will encourage somebody else in their hard trials. I'm placing it here in the Worship section of the Encouragement forum because even if you are not suffering, I pray it will cause praise for our great God to well up in your soul.

I Am My Lord's
As I lay here upon my bed
I'm filled with joy at what's ahead.
My heart's not in this world of pain
I'm filled with peace, for Christ's my gain.
The tenderness of His embrace,
His endless love, His precious grace,
Fill my heart with joy and peace,
For His sweet love will never cease
To hold me close, and nearer bring
Me to His side, my God, my King.
So, as I lay upon this bed
These precious thoughts are in my head,
And in my heart the deepest love
Responds to Him who dwells above.
Live or die ... I am my Lord's.
No power on earth, no power in hell
Could ever cause my God to tell
Me anything but "I love you.
"I gave my very Son for you
"That you might live eternally
"In Heaven where you will dwell with Me
"And sing and dance around My throne.
"But—My promise isn't to you alone,
"For ALL who will through faith, by grace
"Accept my gift, shall see My face."
Like me they'll cry ... I am my Lord's.
So live or die, I look ahead
Beyond the limits of this bed,
And see with joy that by His Word
I am the choice of Christ my Lord.
He knew me e'er the world begun
And saw the days that I have run,
And sees the course that lies ahead.
So in His care I have placed my soul
And know that He will make me whole,
And I will live eternally
To serve the One who died for me.
My life is His ... I am my Lord's.
