I know a woman who was saved as a hard-core drug user. Immediately all desire to use drugs was gone! She also had a very hard upbringing.
I think that's God's grace and compassionate mercy, knowing how tough things were before. And a testament to His life saving power through the Gospel.

When i was younger i use to listen to gangsta rap and it had a negative impact and i can relate to your experience for when i took my faith more seriously i lost all interest in that type of music as well
