How Will the Rapture Play Out in a Twinkling of an Eye?

Tall Timbers

Imperfect but forgiven

I'm taking this short wholly from 1 Thes 4:14-17

Verse 14 indicates that those asleep (dead) in Christ will come with Jesus and witness the catching up of the living Believers. The dead in Christ are already with Jesus in heaven and will receive their glorified bodies first, before the living.

Verse 15 indicates that the living will not precede those who died in Christ.

Verse 16 indicates that the Lord Himself will descend from heaven (those dead in Christ will be with Him). He'll descend with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first (receive their glorified bodies).

Verse 17 indicates that after the dead in Christ have risen, we who are alive and remain will be caught up with them in the clouds (Raptured) to meet the Lord in the air, and then we'll be with Jesus always.

And that all happens quite quickly!

The part I haven't been able to quite fathom is how things will go with those who are already in heaven waiting for their new bodies. Jesus brings them with him when he comes, so I picture those souls "up there". Their old bodies are transformed into their eternal bodies... do they come all the way down and meet their new bodies at or after the transformation? I just can't quite picture how that's gonna work... I understand that however it happens it's all going to be practically instantaneous.

Your OP has the wrong verses. Is 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17

Perhaps its the same as it was for the Church Saints who have already died. Upon their death, they were instantly with Jesus in their spiritual body. So when Jesus calls the church home in the rapture, those who are in the spiritual body will instantly be transformed into their glorified body, just as it will be for those of us alive. One second, in our current body, the next, glorified body, all the above happening faster than you can say “cheeseburger”.

Forgot to add - the speed at which all the above will happen, cant be limited by us trying to understand the exact sequence - its all too fast that even the most advanced cameras could not capture the exact sequence.

I LOVE that passage. My mother nailed it firmly into my 14 year old brain a couple of weeks before she died. It comforted me then and now. Only now I just feel a sense of anticipation, like waiting for Christmas as a kid. Coming soon!!!!

And too fast for my human brain to process I'm quite sure. I'll be over in the corner with a happy grin, just processing it all.
